My Tues and Wed this week were wildly busy, I'm taking a deep breath today as the second shift holds nothing more than piano lessons for the DDs and a hike with the Boy Scouts for DS.  Might even try to get some weekend cleaning done later to lighten my Sat/Sun load.
  • Happy Friday Jr!

No big news here. I failed at adulting and had three weeks of clean laundry to put away last night and it took forever. Apparently you can’t just pile your laundry on the dining room chairs for weeks on end.

Otherwise it’s work, Pilates, a walk, and salmon for dinner. I should start some April reading at some point soon. I started a book I didn’t care for and it kind of killed my momentum. I just need to move onto a different book.

  • Both my kids are going through a no mixing foods phase, which makes busy days with activities very difficult when i can't throw together a crockpot meal or one-pot dish! I'm sympathetic, i was an incredibly picky eater until my early 20s, but it certainly is hard at times.

G is going to karate tonight instead of Saturday, i'm having dinner with a friend tomorrow, we're meeting some old friends Saturday morning, and G just got invited to aplay date on Sunday afternoon. Ready for a break for sure!

probably doing breakfast for dinner since it's fast and people usually eat that consistently.

Yes, I’ve been there before @levioosa
The Josh Johnson comedy tour is hard to get tickets for and they don’t allow resale (which is awesome!) He knows this and put up another show in Madison so we grabbed a few at face value. Woohoo!

  • Kids are on day 4 of vacation.  Chiquita is cleaning her room and Chiquito I hear on the Metaquest.

It's GORGEOUS and seems like a huge waste that they're inside but I have to work.

I'm really trying to increase protein and modify work outs to add more strength training.  The visceral fat added recently is not great and my clothes aren't fitting well either.  I do a 30 minute strength training class 2x / week and now think I need to add a 3rd.
  • I'm finally getting caught up. It's been an interesting week or so here. Last week I found out I was laid off in yet another reorg. I pretty much knew it was coming, but it still sucks. I'm looking for something internal, but the severance is good and I'm kind of thinking about taking the money and running.

Our cat is mostly an indoor cat, but she wants to go outside and has gotten pretty good at sneaking out. She got out over the weekend and hasn't been back. She's chipped and has a collar and we're doing all the things to search, but I'm starting to think that she won't be back. A lot of our neighbors are elderly, so I'm still holding out hope that she convinced one of the old ladies to let her in, and since they don't go out much they probably wouldn't have seen the posters.

And then to make things even more fun, our neighbors on one side are getting ready to sell and I want to fix the fence before they do, so I had a survey done. I kind of thought their fence might be over the line, but we learned yesterday that their entire driveway and patio are encroaching by a lot. I don't even know what to do about that.

I think I'm ready to be done adulting and just go back to watching cartoons. Actually, it's incredible outside, so maybe I'll go draw chalk on the sidewalk. Is it Friday yet?
  • @MyNameIsNot I’m so sorry to hear about such a terrible week. I hope you’re able to find a new job quick and that your kitty is found soon!

With the property line, as someone in a similar situation, unfortunately the answer is legal. And depending on your state laws if you don’t say anything eventually that part of your property just becomes theirs (I will never understand this and it’s infuriating). Our neighbor is trying to wait out the statute on ours and has been ignoring us and unfortunately we’ve had to get lawyers involved. Best case scenario you talk to your neighbor and they move their stuff off of your property and it’s no harm no foul. But if they don’t then it’s lawyer time and you might even have to do something like place a lien if they’re trying to sell to force their hand. I’m sorry. It suuuuckkkssss.

Side note: did anyone watch the insane Neighbors show on Netflix?

That's kind of what I was thinking on the property line. We've got a consult with a lawyer tomorrow. My fear is that it's already too late. Those neighbors built the house in the 70s. The patio and driveway might have been later additions, but they still look like they've been there since at least the 90s. It's a struggle because one died and the living one is in the nursing home, so we'll be dealing with the kids.

I would have expected to file a lawsuit versus a lien. Is that not how it's working for you?
  • Oh no @MyNameIsNot. I’m so sorry to hear. Glad you got a good severance anyway. And hope kitty finds her way home soon.
i have the same situation with the fence. I feel like it’s more on their side than mine, but it’s in pretty bad shape and needs to be looked at soon. They did a mural on their side of it, so I feel like it bought me some time.

  • I'm so sorry @MyNameIsNot about the job and kitty. Hopefully you'll be able to find a job soon and kitty will come home. DS2 has a similar situation with fencing at his house. None of the neighbors don't know who owns the fencing (his entire yard is fenced but differently on different sides). There are parts that definitely need repair but no one had done it because they don't think it is their responsability.

I need to get another book club book read this weekend. It is for our church book club, and I like the writer (William Kent Kreuger). We meet Monday night but I'm not sure I'll be up to going to a restaurant and sitting for 2 hours. On the other hand I would really love the change in venue. I'll just have to wait and see how Monday goes,
  • @MyNameIsNot a lien would be separate, the primary move is a civil lawsuit. But I’ll be honest, H is dealing with all of it. We’re also dealing with property damage from water intrusion from our neighbor’s illegally constructed garage on the property line and it’s just all a mess.

Jeez, that's a lot @MyNameIsNot, I'm sorry.  Yay for the severance at least - where might you try to find a new role?  A different firm, different type of law?

I hope that your cat finds her way home!

@ei34 - I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet. I actually made a career shift a few years ago and haven't been doing legal directly. I've sort of morphed into more finance at a giant corporation. They notified us, but my last day won't actually be until June, so right now I'm looking for something else within the same company. I'm just starting to think about where I'd want to go if I can't find a way to stay. I guess another big faceless corporation. I'd like to try out a start up, but not in this economy.
