In this last crazy week, my home turned into a whirling dervish.  Remnants of end of year teacher gifts, a kid bday party and the influx of gifts, locker clean out x 3, I had to bring some work stuff home since we don't know our exact office/desk or classroom location until a day before school begins...it's not pretty.  I'm very excited to give the living room, kitchen and kids' room a good cleaning aka fill up 5 large trash bags and throw them to the curb.

The weekend will be celebratory- tomorrow we have the kids' great-grandmother's 90th birthday (exH's grandmother...he was invited with the kids and obviously declined *eye roll* I was invited as Plan B bc it's important to my FIL/his siblings that all of the great-grandchildren are in attendance, so I'm taking them).  ExH's family are nice folks for the most part.  There are a few who are in the "unless there's physical abuse or cheating you don't divorce" camp, and they let me know that a few years ago when I filed, but I think overall it should be fine.  I think it's important the kids are there, even though their Spanish has gotten kind of rusty.

Sunday is a cousin's baby's 1st birthday, with my beloved extended family.  Genuinely looking forward to celebrating that little honey bear, and everyone else.
  • Ugh @ei34 it's so hard when people don't see that abuse can take SO MANY forms.

That's tough @ei34. I hope they keep any opinions to themselves during the party.

We are hosting FIL's bday tomorrow. In a whirlwind of a lunch I ran to costco, got some last minute stuff and got gas. I was amazed I finished all of that within an hour. It's going to be a busy next 24 hours with the remainder of prep and hosting. I'm trying really hard to set up this event so I actually spend time with people instead of being in the kitchen the whole time. I throw a mean event, but I'm constantly left feeling like I didn't actually see anyone or socialize because of all the work I did (and H feels the same way, he is also running around instead of socializing). Everyone else always has a great time though, lol. So hopefully we have organized it this time to where we both feel like we got to be around people instead of just purely doing host work.

  • Kudos to you @ei34 for taking the kids so they can celebrate their great-grandmother. I think it is wonderful that your kids have a great grandparent they will be able to remember- that is so unusual these days. I hope everyone is nice to you and yes, abuse doesn't have to be physical.

Our church is having a progressive dinner tomorrow night and we are hosting part of the meal. I spent the afternoon cooking beef bourginon. The house is ready - table set and chairs arranged around the table. I think I over did it though since my body has been yelling at me all evening. The event should be fun though. Appetizers are at the church, then we go to people's homes for the main course and back to the church for dessert. We have 9 people (including ourselves) at our house.

    Have a great weekend everyone!

  • Ugh @ei34,of course he did! I hope it was fun. I hope all the hosting events were fun for the other knotters too!
