Newly Engaged

Just recently engaged & over the moon!  Thinking our wedding will be in April 2013.  Is it way too early to start planning now?  When I say it out loud, it seems so far away.

Re: Newly Engaged

  • I don't think it's too early to determine a budget, general guest list, and start looking at venues.  Some venues can book a year (or even more) out, so you might want to start looking at venues now just in case you need to book one in a few months.

Stuff like dress, photographer, DJ, etc. can wait for a while until after you've picked your venue.

  • congrats on your engagement! i agree with above comment. it's not too early to start looking at venues. my wedding is November 3rd of this year...i started looking at venues in September 2011, and some popular venues like Petroleum club were already booked. In fact, my venue was booked for my first choice date on November 10 and so I went with the 3rd. Photographer and videographer would probably be the next things on your list. I started looking for those this past November, and so many them were already booked...especially the good ones that are reasonably priced. after that you can slow down a bit.

you do still have a lot of time though..congrats again and happy planning!

always determine your budget... then go from there. talk over first  how much money you have, who's paying, and how many guests you want. THEN go from there to pick a date, and venue- etc.

its never too early to avoid the headaches down the line.
  • Absolutely not! The earlier you plan the less stressful it will be in the end. We got engaged in Jan of last year and as of now we have everything booked and are working on the minor details for our wedding in September. I can not tell you how good it feels to be done with the major things!

We are already looking at bookings for a 2014 wedding.  It is never too early.
