Kind of spiritual reading?

Anyone have a nice reading they've come across, something with a bit of spirituality/God in it, but not religious or super serious?  My fiance is Catholic and I am not, we are not being married in a church but want to add a little of "God's love" into the ceremony, so it will be more of a balance between the two of us.
Thanks to anyone who can share what you've come across.  This is one that I've found but looking for other ideas as well...

Dear God, in stillness and in trust we recognize your presence. We know that your love drew Amy and Brendan together so that they may live the adventure of life as one. We also know that your love drew each of us here today so that we might add our love and blessings to this marriage. We affirm that you are with us now as always guiding us, upholding us and blessing us with abundance of faith, love and fulfillment.

If you dont beleive in God..why would you lie by saying all of this? If you dont beleive it was God that brought you together and if you dont want to include him in your marraige, then why would you say you want his guidence and an abundance of faith for something you dong beleive. Im confused.

    Um, I didn't say I didn't believe in God.  I said I wasn't Catholic.  That's not the same thing.
  • not religious or super serious?

That sounds like you dont want it to be religious......

  • Right.  That's why I said spiritual and "not religious." - because I don't want it to be religious.
Something doesn't have to be Biblical to mention God...

I just dont understand why you would say you dont want something religious and specify that you want something with a 'bit of God; that your FI is religious background, while you never said you were....so the logical conclusion would be that you are not and are doing it for your FI, sorry if i misunderstood you.

  • No, you didn't "misunderstand" - you flat out accused me of lying, instead of asking me politely to clarify and somehow interpreted that my being "not Catholic" as being some kind of phony, Godless Heathen.  Just because I don't practice the same faith as my fiance doesn't mean I don't have beliefs of my own, and doesn't mean that he and I are not trying to find a way for the ceremony to include God in a way that makes us both comfortable.  God doesn't have to equal religion in my book.

I hope you feel good about the way you responded.  Your true character definitely came through loud and clear.

I am in the same boat as you and I understand! I grew up Mormon and my fiancée grew up Lutheran and neither of us actively practice. We are trying to find our way together and are still young. I'm probably going to post my own thing about having a ceremony that is not necessarily religious but still shows my gratitude for him being in my life. I also don't know what to do after rings and everything... We are not getting married in a temple (obviously) so I'm stumped!

Anyway, I totally understand and back you up! :) good luck! Let me know if you find anything!!
