NWR: Houston Fun Stuff

Can any of you recommend some fun things to do in Houston or good restaurants?

I'm looking to buy a gift certificate to something in Houston either food or fun related.  It's part of a much larger gift.  I know nothing about Houston and would rather go off of recommendations than random internet websites!

Thanks!

Who is it for?  Age group? Gender?

Off the top of my head Main Event is fun -- it's a huge play pavillion with bowling, laser tag, games, drinks, and food.

Studio Movie Grill is nice too -- you eat dinner while you watch a movie.

Can probably give more suggestions once I know who it's for :)

Oh, haha.  Sorry!  I didn't even think to offer that.

Two 30 year old, young profressionals.  They were just married.  I'm giving them a gift from each of their home towns, from the city where they met, and the city they currently live.  Kind of a "your past, your present, and your future" kind of a gift.

I know the groom is from Houston and they visit occasionally.  I just wanted to give them something to do while they are there.  I was thinking a restaurant would be a good choice for that area but I'm pretty open.

It really depends on what type of food they like.  We have some pretty amazing food here so I will list a few good restaurants and the type of food served at each.  Also, Houston is pretty sprawled out (can take up to an hour to go from one part of town to another) so if you could indicate what part of town that could help too.

    1. Trulucks (Seafood) Galleria area
    2. Pappas Brothers Steakhouse (Steaks and an extensive wine selection) Galleria area
    3. Tommy Bahamas (American...the Ahi tuna is my fav) The Woodlands
    4. Americas (South American...great steak and amazing Peruvian cookies) The Woodlands and River Oaks

Fogo de Chao is a churrascaria (the serve all kinds of different meats) and has the best salad bar I've ever seen but its pretty pricy and I (being a small girl) never feel I can eat my monies worth here.

Mmmmm Fogo de Chao is great.

There are some cool wine bars in Houston, too, so if they're into that kind of thing, you could do The Tasting Room or 13 Celcius.

I love your gift idea!! Since you're focusing on towns I would choose a restraunt that's only in Houston.

What about Tony Mandola's?  They've been around for a while and are local.  The Mandola family is a big family and almost everyone has their own business (I think they even own Carrabba's) so you'll find other businesses in other cities but Tony Mandola's restaurant is only in Houston. http://www.tonymandolas.com/
