Inexpensive Wedding

My FI and I wanted something small and intimate but my mom decided she wanted to do something bigger since I was her only daughter.

Our budget is $2000 which would have been fine when we had a 20 person guest list but now we are looking at 100 guests. The dress, cake and flowers are taken care of. Im doing the invites myself.

Does anyone know of a place in Houston that would cost less than $2000 for rental plus food?

We arent planning on serving alcohol which I know would help with the budget.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Re: Inexpensive Wedding

  • are you looking for a place for the ceremony and reception or just reception?
the Heights fire station is a pretty nice place and its in that budget and you could always do finger type foods to keep the cost down instead of a full out meal.

If you find some place that you fits your budget, Antonio's in Deer Park has great prices on their to go items.  I've ordered items from them for 50 people for less than 200.  We had more than enough food.
  • Look into Brady's Landing. I paid for 125 people and it ended up costing us just over 3000 for the venue and food on a Sunday.

You could also look into the Height's Firestation, The Lyceum down in Galveston, and Raven's Lodge at Huntsville State Park. If I think of anymore I will post. Good luck!
And now we are as one

  • The Milford House (cute house in the museum district) has room for 100 and their saturday rental fee is about $750 (but you gotta tack on a couple more hundred for tables, chairs, and security guard, so probably an even $1000).

I do know, however, that they're way cheaper for non-saturday weddings.  More like $500 rental fee.  Then you can bring in your own caterer, but that can get pricey especially since you also need cups, plates, napkins, silverware, etc. (which on your budget I would suggest all plastic).  So, just make sure you're accounting for all of that when you add up the numbers!

  • I am having the ceremony at my church so I just need a venue for the reception.

Heights Fire Station sounds nice but it is too much DIY since I don't have much time on my hands.
  • Honestly, you really only have two options for that kind of budget:  A DIY kinda place like the Heights firestation or Milford house, OR a cheap restaurant.

I'm thinking something like mexican food (Cadillac bar can host large weddings).

What part of town is your church in?  Maybe we can suggest a restaurant that way.  Restaurants don't (usually) have rental fees as long as you meet the food and beverage minimum, so your only real issue is finding a restaurant that is large enough and cheap enough to feed 100 people for $2000.

Actually I asked Hungry's Cafe & Bistro which is one of my favorite places to go and they said they would work with me!

And they are building a new two story building next to the old one and will be ready in time for my wedding!
  • Hungry's is actually a great idea.  Good food.  I hope it works out for you!

If not, come back and we'll suggest more.

  • monkeysip,

I'm thinking an inexpensive restaurant might be what I need also . Can you throw out any more ideas? Cadillac Bar's pricing looks great, I've contacted them for more info.

I'm planning from out of state so I need to do a lot of research & pick out a bunch of places to go look at my next trip home. My budget will basically work with a cheaper DIY place, or possibly a restaurant. Trying to decide what would make the most sense!

    Thanks!
  • Hey aggie,

Do you have a location in mind?  FYI, Cadillac has two locations.  The location closer to downtown houston, around I-10, is nice inside but not in the prettiest location.  There's another location in Kemah on the waterfront.  It has a patio and beautiful view, so if you don't care which location, kemah is a great option.

Let me know your rough location choice and I'll suggest more.

Maggiano's is pricier, but a REALLY nice option.  Galleria area.

  • I'm hoping to have the ceremony at a church in River Oaks / Montrose area. This may not work out in which case I'd be willing to travel almost anywhere in the Houston area.

Thanks for any more suggestions you can provide!
  • Ok, here's what I got so far:

Buca di Beppo (italian) near Buffalo Speedway
The Rainbow lodge (american) in the heights/washington area
Cafe Adobe, Guadalajara, and Los Cucos are mexican restaurant chains that do events and have lots of locations, some of which look better than others.
All of these should be reasonably priced, but I'm not sure exactly how much.

Also, how many people do you need to accomodate?  The above restaurants can accomodate up to 200, I believe.  If you have a smaller wedding, you'll have a lot more options.

Out of curiosity, what church do you want to marry in?
