Wedding Coordinator?

I'm trying to decide if paying for a DOC is worth it? I have a friend who really wants to be my DOC, but she is also going to be a bridesmaid. I found a couple of DOCs I like for around $700 which wouldn't break the bank but if I could use the money else where that would be great! What do you ladies think? Have my friend to double duty or spend the cash and just get a professional? Thanks in advance. I really appreciate all the help you ladies give!

If you're venue doesnt provide one.. totally worth it.

I learned thru previous family weddings that venue coordinators can be helpful but their main concern will always be with whatever the venue has promised to deliever ie: food, drinks, cake cutting, etc. 

They are not there to see that all the other million little details are taken care of like cake topper, decor on gift/cake table, working with DJ & photo person, etc.

Several of my friends made the mistake of believing that they were there to do much more until a few days before when the long list of "I can't do that" start to come out.

If one is provided, make sure you ask very detailed questions about what they are willing to do, otherwise, surprise......"we really don't do that" will happen.

I already have my day of coordinator. I am glad, relieved, relaxed & excited to be working with her already!

Our venue had a coordinator but if I could go back in time, would have chosen a DOC, I felt that venue coordinator wasn't as quick and on point as I needed. The coordination I needed was: Example: to let the waitstaff know the cake would need cutting, the venue coordinator was aware we were cutting cake, it was akward moment since we were standing there waiting for waitstaff to come cut rest of the cake as promised, took them about 15-20 mins to come over, little things like that, lapses in time, I would have appreciated someone reminding them of...

We're definitely hiring a DOC. Most of my friends are newlyweds and the ones that had one said great things, and the ones that didn't have one regret it.
