Just a Scary reminder about the wedding scams people can pull

http://www.khou.com/news/investigative/khou-107257789.html

Articles like this scare the crap out of me. It is saddening to think that people take advantage of people on their wedding day. Why would you do that to somebody.

Like the article suggests, I strongly support the idea of checking out your vendors with the BBB. It is just one way that you can tell the reliability of your merchants.

I;m glad that there was a report on this. I remember a few people posting on here about that a few months ago. It is so disappointing to hear, and I hope that those who didnt get their photos still have family and friends who can at least provide a few to make their memories last.

Great, I just looked up our vendors and our cake vendor has a F rating, we already put the deposit down, not sure if we can cancel...any advice?

Not saying you shouldnt worry, but also just because they have an F review doesn;t mean they are absolutely terrible. I am sure that you have heard at least 20 people here review LG Entertainment as A++++ yet they too have an F rating on BBB.

Well if they have an "F" rating, my suggestion to you would be to try and get a discount from them, saying that if they perform well and offer you a good rate you will write a satisfactory report to the BBB.

The BBB is a good way to measure a merchant, but can sometimes be outdated as well. I would ask other brides to see if they have worked with them and see what their experiences are. The BBB isn't the only way to gage the success/failure rate of a vendor.

Like Bride10210 said, some vendors have bad reviews, but are amazing.

However if you are truly concerned see if the BBB even has anything that will help you make sure the situation goes smoothly.

I couldn't find our venue (chateau crystale) on BBB but I found for heavens cake. We had already booked them when I read their not-so-great reviews on weddingbee and projectwedding.com and now the 1 complaint (not resolved) leading to F rating on BBB makes us more hesitant to proceed with them.....

Just thought I would add in that the BBB isn't what it's cracked up to be.  I used to check it for most things, but on Friday 20/20 did a report on them, and vendors "buy" an A+ rating.

It was pretty sad seeing how even the BBB is corrupt now.

Just thought I would throw that out there that I would go on reviews on weddingwire and weddingbee before I went by what the BBB says.

What a shame and how terrible.  Looking at the website it seems K4 is still in business.

They did a follow-up on the report and it seems that the head of the company decided to talk and said that the problem was an assistant who was failing to do the work.

The report says that she is working with couples who never received their pictures to get to them as soon as possible and is working to repair her reputation.

We will see. Again, still freaking scary.
