Cost of men's suits and DJs

Hey guys,

Even though our wedding is still not for a little over a year, I'm trying to hammer out all the details of our budget.

I'm kind of clueless of what to budget for the men's attire.  We'll have 4 men in the wedding party, plus FI, and I'm not sure if any of the other guys can pay for their suits.  So we're going to try and budget for all of their suits just in case they can't pay.  We're doing suits, btw, because it's a daytime, more casual wedding.  So, does anyone have a ball-park figure for the cost to rent 5 suits?  Or, does anyone know if it'd be better to just buy them?  Or maybe FI can buy his and the others can rent? (FI could use a nice suit).

Also, I've budgeted $1000 for a DJ for maybe 5-6 hours.  Does that sound like too much, too little, or just about right?

With 4 gm thats 75 each...it worked out perfectly..i still have them renting the shirt, vest,shoes..but we still came out cheaper..now fi fell in love with his white suit rental..i asked how.much was the suit if I wanted to buy it..she said 400..well needless to say hes renting..lol.rental is 120..check KG, suits u..and suitsmart..even khols and jcpennys have suits

  • I am renting tuxs from mens warehouse.  I chose tuxs that were in the middle price range, and come out to $130 per person for rental. I( the groom) could have gotten mine free since there are 5 total rentals but I am paying for my rental and getting a free suit to keep as well ($400 suit value). If  you want to buy suits instead. keep look out for those specials of either buy one get one free or for half off or &99 as that will get you the best price. suits can range anywhere in price and for nice ones, you're looking at a minimum of $300 each. Keep in mind if you buy suits, you have to account for the dress shirts, shoes, and vest if wanted. The DJ costs i have seen for 6 hours range from 750 on up depending on what package you get from them. Hope this helps.
  • We rented tuxes from Men's Warehous for $145 (comes with everything head to toe, and if you rent 5 or more on of the tuxes is free), DJ about $750 for 6 hours.

  • Thanks so much! I think I'll budget around 800 dollars for suits for now, but I'll keep an eye out for special deals when the time comes closer.

I think if you're going to have them  wear suits, it'd be better to just buy since it is something they can wear again. I think it's about $120 to rent anyway. I bought pretty nice kenneth cole reaction suits for the groomsmen from Macy's for $100 each during the MLK day sale. It was orginally $350. My mom just bought 2 of them for my brother just this past weekend for $112 each. The guys already have their own white dress shirts and black dress shoes. I'm don't really care if they have matching shoes. l'm going to get them matching ties, pocket squares, and argyle socks. We splurged and got the groom a super nice suit elsewhere. I think a man should have at least 1 really nice suit on hand.

You can also check out the Banana Republic outlet...they tend to have good sales for suit separates..however it may be difficult to find the correct size for all 4 guys. The Perry Ellis outlet also has good prices on suits ($100 or less). These were at the outlet in Cypress, but they also have the same stores in Katy Mills.  I think you could definitely get the suits for $800 or less.

Here is the link for the Kenneth cole suit from Macy's. This particular suit frequently goes on sale. They also have it in taupe.

The more popular DJs like Space City Entertainment, LG entertainment, and Jonny Black quoted me 800-1000 for 4 hours, but I'm sure they will work with you. You could definitely get one for less though. DJ's unlimited quoted me $600 for 4 hours.  Sign up for I Do Daily deals. It's like groupon for weddings. I got 5 hours of DJ plus full room lighting for $799. I just saw a deal for 50% off DJ services...can't remember which one though.
