Texas-Houston

DJs on a budget.

I'm looking for a DJ who has equipment, a turntable, cd player, ipod hookup. We plan on paying him to play the music we choose in the order that we want. So, someone who is independent or just starting out would be perfect. I am looking to spend no more than $500 for this vendor.
Thanks

Yeah - but she is only saying that you might have better luck on Craigslist.

There's nothing weird about the recommendation, it's actuallly a great suggestion, being that you are looking for a DJ on a budget.

Craigslist has a lot of up and coming photographers, DJs ect. Its a great place to look for services on a tight budget.

How many hours are you wanting? Just your reception or the ceremony as well?

Also, besides craigslist you may want to check weddingwire and find DJ's that don't have any reviews or only a few reviews. That will give you insight into someone who is new in the business and might help you out.

Well, it is strange because this is a wedding planning board, where I should be able to find that answer through those who know someone or have that vendor already.  I thought we were all looking for the same things here, or am I crazy?

I've checked into the following DJs and they were pretty reasonably priced (around 400-450)

    DJ Rob Entertainment - http://www.djrobinfo.com/
Exceptional DJ (DJ Forest) - http://thehoustondjs.com/ (He seemed pretty flexible with services so he might be a good option for you)

Also, I've heard good things about Space City Entertainment but I don't know info about their pricing.

    Hope that is helpful.

We basically want to pay someone to play the music we want in the order we want. We also need someone who has the equipment and can announce what we are doing -- in a subtle tone.

Jess -- THANK YOU. Ideal answer I'm looking for.
I've actually setup an appointment with Forrest at Xceptional DJs and he seems VERY helpful, and within my pricerange.

If he doesn't work out, I will look into the others.
    Thanks again for your suggestion.

<div>Well, I will keep any more "weird" suggestions to myself. I know that a lot of people find budget vendors on Craigslist, so I was passing that knowledge to you. A lot of DJs are well over $500, but I know that I've seen some on Craigslist for $200. But whatever. No more "weird" suggestions, like Criaigslist....</div>

This is a wedding specific board. DJs are not a wedding specific vendor, therefore you can find great deals on sites like Craigslist.

I found it odd that that's all you said... I was looking for suggestions to DJs specifically... not a place to find them. I wanted personal recommendations.

I used Space City Entertainment, however I am pretty sure they will be over your budget. I think for four hours they are around 550 or perhaps more. I would however recommend them, they did an amazing job, and were willing to work with our weird song requests. However we did not tell them what to play exactly. We just gave them an idea of what we wanted and let them go with it. But nonetheless they did an awesome job.

Most of the girls here who have their DJs were/are well over your budget; hence the recommendation to go to Craigslist.  What you're looking for isn't a DJ, but someone who can just play music...two different things.

Professional wedding DJs offer more than what you're asking.  New and upcoming wedding DJs won't be advertising on The Knot, WeddingWire or anything wedding website, b/c they are up and coming, so they won't have the funds to advertise on anything but a free site.

These boards are meant to be helpful, not necessarily to do the research for you.  If you're asking for personal recommendations, then it would be best to state it in your original post.  Hope that helps you!

We are using Sound Connections and we got a great deal.  You can choose the music you want and the order you want them played.  You can do most of it online.
