HELP HELP PHOTO QUESTION MY HEAD IS SWIMMING

Okay, we had our engagement photos done this weekend in another state. (Will post some when I get them.) However, in talking to the photographer, he made me a deal:
1. I pay roundtrip  tickets for him and his assistant. (easy work in travel industry)
2. Provide them a place to stay, whether hotel or w/friends. (have great friends that would love this.)
4. I have copyright release
5. I have him and his assistant unlimited for wedding and rehearsal.
6. Any portraits that any of my wedding guest want will be taken
7. 1 10x10 24 page library bound book
8. 1 8x8 24 page library bound book
9. 3 coffee table 24 page books
10. Engagement photos
10. Cost= $1500.00+airfare+place= around $2000.00-150 (for the engagement photos)

Opinions please!!!!

I believe that is an execellent deal, especially because you liked him to. I think the albums is a great deal that comes alone with that. Go for it. I'm paying 1,350 for 2 photographers, engagement  and bridal session, plus all day on the wedding day. I don't get an album but I get the copyright plus all the edited and unedited photos. I figure I can do an album online myself, it would be a lot cheaper.

good for you, bad for him.

I have no idea how he'll be making any profit on that deal.

I'd also ask to see a sample of the albums.

I'm getting Engagement/Wedding day a 18x20 photo that I can put up for the reception, 2 album books, 2 cd's one of each with all the photos from that day, all the editing and copyright release to print my own pictures. All of this for 700.00, what do you guys think? Is that a great deal?

I have no idea how people can make a living off of this! 2k for all of that and someone else only $700! If you think they are good then they are worth every penny you spend on them! Although I don't think they feel that their work is good enough to charge more. Are either of them doing any editing? If they are then you are really getting them at a steal!

Well as I previous stated, this girl is my co-worker and we have been working together for 3 years. We are great friends. She has taken pictures at our company functions, she has also took pictures of our department as we put together a photo album for our manager as one of her going away gifts. She loved it cause we were able to personalized each page with our very own message. I've seen her work and I love it. My package included editing and the works. So yes I am getting a great deal. We will also have disposable cameras at a few tables for guest to take pictures as well. Well those cameras will actually be given to responsible people to take those other photos that our photographer may not catch.

Seriously?? The girls that are posting about "how can he make any money charging that price" seem a bit ridiculous to me.  I mean, how much do you really think all of that costs?  Most of it is labor, and he's still going to be making a good deal a money off of it.  I know there are amazing photographers out there who don't charge $3,000 or more for their work.  The ones that get all of that money out of you are doing so because they have created a following.  And the comment about he must not love his work to charge more- that was just annoying.  Anyway, to the original poster, that seems like a good deal especially if you love their work.

I say that it is fantastic that they are able to get such a deal especially if they are great photographers! It is fantastic that you have found such wonderful people to photograph your special day!

I am a student and photographer who also knows professional photographers in the area. Time is money and anyone who runs a true successful small business (not just a part time thing for extra cash) knows about overhead, taxes to the government, etc. and if you don't charge enough you cannot make a living. I personally will not charge for photos sessions that I use for classes (only) and give a free retouched print for their time. Other students will give the free photo session but charge for prints of the photos. They will charge a person around $130 just for a retouched 8x10 photograph!  Because of the time and everything that goes into that photo it can be worth every penny.

We're posting those statements because we KNOW how much it costs.

    <a href="http://ezinearticles.com/?Why-Does-Wedding-Photography-Cost-So-Much?&id=3413650">http://ezinearticles.com/?Why-Does-Wedding-Photography-Cost-So-Much?&id=3413650</a>

or just google "why does photography cost so much"

    To OP:
I'm just saying to ask to see album quality. for that price, I can't see them being leather lay flat waterproof professionally bound albums. They might be blurb.com albums or something. you need to know what you're getting ahead of time.  Without the albums, that price is actually pretty average these days. If you love his work, boom him. Can't wait to see your epics!

LIke pp said, check out the albums and get all your information. A friend of ours hired a photographer because they got a "good deal" and they said his photos were good...turned out he was an hour late, with no extra camera, no flash and their photos turned out terrible. Also photographers "who charge more than 3K just because they have a following" - while they probably have established themselves, they also provide amazing work and they charge that for that reason

Obviouslt everyone has different budgets to work with, we are just saying make sure you have all your information before you say yes, you dont get your wedding day back, you want to make sure you get some great memories from it

Also - IMO the throw away cameras don't work well, you might want to create a shutterfly account or something and place some cards on the table or by the sign in with the login info so people can load their photos from their own personal cameras good luck!
