Alterations for a reasonable price?

Hi Ladies,

Is there such a thing as reasonably priced alterations?  My dress comes in soon and I'm terrified everywhere I try to take it will be so expensive.  I've budgeted $300 for alterations.  I'll need the length taken up, a bustle and possibly the bodice taken in a little.  Any recommendations you can provide on a seamstress that you felt was not too high priced would be much appreciated!!  I live downtown and work at greenspoint so I'm flexible on location.

Beautiful U is a little pricey - for bustle, hem, boobie pads, and bust line work, it was $425, not including the $40 to steam the dress after alterations. For just the bustle and hem, it would have been $300.

They do good work, but i wouldn't say they are amazing - and they promised to do some things that never got done (eye hooks so the zipper flap would lie flat, darting the lower back b/c it was too big) and I trusted them and didn't double check (wouldn't have mattered anyway since I was flying out the next day for the wedding).  And trying to schedule fittings with their staff was always difficult and fraught with attitude - hence the last minute pick-up. Overall, I wouldn't recommend them unless you have several months for alterations (although they will tell you that you only need 5-6 weeks).

ps. look back to previous threads - one person got a bustle and hem done for $75 up in the woodlands.
