Venuess and Pricing

Hi All!  I'm new to The Knot, so hello!

I was wanting to get some opinions on two venues and their pricing.

The first, is the Courtyard at St James place.  How did you like it andwhat  did the pricing look like?

The second, is Maxims on Richmond Ave.  It is owned by the Pappas Restaurant Group.  Has anyone been to an event there?  Do you know what their pricing is like?

Thanks so much for your help!

Courtyard on St James has an open house this weekend - Aug 8th 12-3. You should check it out if you are curious to see the place in person and find out their pricing. I used to have their pricing info, but I think I deleted the email. They do not charge a flat fee for their venue - they do per head pricing. I believe it was based on food and alcohol. I think I remembered a lot of extra costs as well (security guards, parking, etc).

I have not heard anything about Maxim's.

I've used Courtyard at St. James for a couple of large work related events but not for my wedding.  They are very helpful and very accommodating.  Great food, but they can get pricey.  I have still one of their catering menus, but it can be out of date (2008)

My FSIL used Courtyard at St. James for her wedding.  There was a second reception going on at the same time upstairs but it was not noticeable.  They are well set up for that.  The outdoor ceremony was gorgeous.  But I felt that the indoor room (downstairs) was not set up well for the reception.  Half the guests were up on the next level (looking down to dance floor) so it was hard to find who you were looking for.  It was just an odd setup...  But the place is beautiful.

I'm getting married at Courtyard at St James next March.  We didn't want to get married in a church so the outdoor area was a great alternative for the ceremony.  I think our estimated total came to about $14K.  That includes the ceremony rental, reception rental, seated dinner, open bar, linens, and valets.  We're expecting about 120 people.  For the garden room (the downstairs room that can fit 150 people) I think the food and beverage minimum was $8000.  When I booked they had a special where the premium linens (chair covers and table overlays) were free.  It ended up saving me about $500.  It's cheaper if you choose a time other than Saturday night.

I'm sure they'll have all their info for minimums and food and drink packages at the open house this weekend.

If you end up liking Courtyard you might also like Rockefeller Hall or Ashton Gardens.  I know Ashton Gardens was more expensive (I think the minimum for a Saturday night was $17K before adding any alcohol) and if I remember correctly Rockefeller Hall was probably about $1000 more than Courtyard.

I had my wedding reception at the Courtyard in Janaury.  I loved it!  The venue was wonderful and beautiful and the staff was outstanding.  I worked with a guy named Scott but I'm sure they are all great.  We had the upstairs ballroom for our reception.  You can e-mail them to ask for a price list or I'm sure they will have that info at the open house.  I can't say enough good things about the Courtyard and their staff.

Visited Ct Yard on ST James.  Very pretty but a little pricey.  I think the quote for basic like less then 100 people was 14000.00 and it can go up from there.  They do charge a lot of little fees for different stuff.  My budget was 10000.00 so I couldn't go with them.

If you are talking about Maxims on Richmond near Tanglewilde in the strip center. I used to go there as a club (and it wasnt an upscale one), and they would have the events next door. This has been like 3 years, So, if they are still doing that, I don't know how you would feel about that.
