Basic videographer info?

Hi ladies,

So we've really really been debating whether or not to have a video done.  I'd like to, but I don't want to spend much.  Is upwards of $1000 pretty much standard?  If so, I'm afraid that it will be tough with our budget.  What advice do you girls have about videographers in general (or specific recommendations)?  Is it really worth the price?  Is having a friend man a video camera set up going to be just as good?  If you did one or the other, any regrets?

You will most likely be dissapointed by anyone who offers to shoot your wedding for under $1800. Most videos under that price range are pretty boooooring!!  If you can't see the quality and creative deferrences of one videographe'rs work over another, then you should just have a friend shoot it as you probably have no taste.

I will say that having a video is becoming a "must have" these days as photo's alone just don't cut it anymore.

I would highly recommend in hiring a professional videographer. You could ask a friend, but you really want them to enjoy being a guest at your wedding. I wasn't going to get a videographer, but at the last minute I decided that I was going to. I am now so glad that I did. There was so many things that I missed and so many moments I replay in my head. I am glad I have the video to see all those things. It is so different from photography. You get to hear conversation, body language, etc.

I was really hunting for some reasonable rates and I found that In Touch Video Productions and Rusty Bryce were the best price ($1000-$1200). I used In Touch Video, but I know many girls on the board have used Rusty. I loved my video. It wasn't cheesy at all. I cried when I saw mine. DH even said to me it was so worth the money $$.

I hope you find one at your budget.

I'm also considering whether or not I want video. I really don't consider it to be a "must have" so I think its up to what you can afford. I know that if I do get one it will need to be in the 1,000 range also. Based on what the ladies have said here In Touch and Rusty seem to be the best recommended in that budget. I think also your budget needs to be aligned with your expectations, that way you wouldn't be disappointed just because the video didn't cost you thousands of dollars you didn't want to spend. Personally I don't think I would be happy spending more than 1,000 on this.

I HIGHLY recommend you booking a professional videographer.  I just received the raw footage to my church wedding and I've loved it.  Granted, my videographer is waiting on my to get him music selections so he can finish up the highlights and such.

I've had many brides come to me afterwards saying they regretted not having a videographer.  I can't stress it enough!  :)

I agree with the others in that you want to have pro do this for you.  You will be disappointed with anything less.  There have been a lot of great raves for Rusty Bryce AND his pricing.  If he's a little over your budget, maybe you could trim somewhere else.

    Good luck.

I had no room in my budget for a videographer. My uncle ended up doing ours. Our video would of been amazing if we had a better camera. If I had room in my budget I would of gotten one. Honestly I don't think I'll ever really watch the video all that much though. The only one who is going to care to watch is it me and the DH, maybe one day we will show our kids. As much as I would of loved to have one it wasn't as high on my list of important things.

I have heard great things about the videographers others have mentioned. If you have room in your budget do it. Videographer was not high on my must have lists so it was put to the side. In the end spend money on the things you want the most!

    Good luck.

This is on my soon to be husbands wish list ( he only has about 3 request) for the entire wedding.. so I'm searching and after delegating most of our budget also found the cost was more than I expected.I'm really looking for suggestions so if there are any other than Rusty please let me know.
