The Majestic Metro - Reviews??

So, FI was working downtown and found the Majestic Metro. Their website isn't very helpful, so I was wondering if any of you ladies have been there/know anything about their prices or atmosphere? Thanks!!

I went there when I was looking for a wedding venue.

    Good:
    - Really good sound system.  My FI is hard of hearing and the music was loud and clear enough for him to hear more than just the beat.
    - Good location.
    - Guy who runs the place is nice.

    Bad:
    - Very dark interior -- not with lighting but the color scheme.  Dark walls, dark floor.  Also no particular color so would be hard to get a color theme in my opinion
    - IMO it was showing its age. Some might think that adds character but all I could think was it was a high price for an old building
    - It's smaller than it looks online -- you walk into the lobby that has a bar to the left and the buffet tables would be set up on the right.  You then walk into the "theater" area.  There is floor space for maybe 10 tables but it's a tight squeeze.  Your other guests would sit at bar highs similar to a diner.  The stage up front is the dance floor. There is additional seating upstairs but is an extra cost.  Also, I believe the restrooms are upstairs.  That would be a problem for the elderly or the excessively drunk :)

I didn't like it at all but I think it would be nice if a) that's your style and b) you have a small wedding.

    HTH!

Oh and I don't remember their prices but I believe it was 5K for a Saturday evening.  If you call him the guy will give you all that information over the phone.

FYI they allow outside catering and alcohol.

I toured it, and it was MUCH smaller than it looks on-line. The dance floor is awkward as is the seating... about 1/2 of your guests will be seated at bars instead of tables. The place is cute and has character, but is dark and smells like smoke.

Eww! Thanks for the help! Instead of forever crushing his dreams, I've passed along some of your comments and told him we'd have to go take a look at the place. It does look really cramped in pictures I've seen...

I've booked there for August of next year.  I didn't smell the smoke smell I've read that others have described.

My wedding will have about 150 guests, so the downstairs portion is perfect.  The tables seat 140 (I don't want people sitting the whole time anyhow!) and the "bar" tables will cover a lot more.  If you intend on having 400 people at your wedding, this may not be the place for you.

As far as color and theme, the owner suggests downplaying decorations you bring in because the Majestic is so ornate.  It's true.  It's one of the reasons why I chose the place - I didn't want to have to fuss with dressing up a hall somewhere.  The Majestic is already gorgeos as is - regardless of it's age showing (It's SUPPOSED to show its age - it's historic!).

For the ceremony and reception on a Saturday, it's about $5600.  It includes quite a bit (required security, chairs, tables, sound system, plenty of time at the location, quasi-MC).

Just call and schedule to take a tour.  The lovely older gentleman will gladly give you a tour and break down the cost and what comes with the venue.
