Venting on the venue

I am getting married at Ashelynn Manor. Everytime I would see a bride on here asking about it or asking for a recomendation I would always give it great remarks because I haven't had any problems with them. Well, that has all came to a crashing halt as of today. I am trying to arrange a day to do my bridal portraits. I would really like to do them at Ashelynn Manor because of all the great shots that can be taken there along with the fact that my hair and make-up artist is one of their preffered venders and is doing my trial session there the same day as my bridals. My photographer likes to start photo sessions around 5 because of the lighting. Ashelynn Manor closes at 4, but they said that if our session was ending around 5:15 ish that someone would still be there. If they had to stay open longer than that they would charge me a fee because they have to keep their staff there and keep lights and a/c running for 2 big buildings. I can understand that. I really do. I am still trying to figure out how much they would charge for this. They also have 2 old trucks that are so pretty and I wanted to take pictures with. Thay have said from day one that this isn't a problem at all and that they do it all the time. They never said that they charge to use them, they even made it sound like it was part of the deal there. Just recently I found out that they charge you a detailing fee. I was thinking maybe 35 or 40 for detailing because they used the words "Small detaling fee". The fee is anything but small. It is 150 dollars just to make sure it's washed and the guy who does moves it around their property for you. That's it. I don't think that's worth 150. Do you?

I love Ashelynn Manor. I think it is a beautiful place to get married and the staff is nice and has really been helpful, even during this debacle. But, I think all these charges are a little much. Am I wrong? Am I right? Is this normal?

The detailing fee is kind of ridiculous. I can understand them wanting to charge for staying after hours though. Can you do your bridals at a different time? Morning light looks good in bridal photos.

Maybe you can find somewhere else to do bridals? You'll get some pretty pics on your wedding day at Ashelynn Manor and there's lots of great places around Houston to do bridals.

I hope everything works out for you!

Thank you. I am working on trying to figure out a solution. I am sure I will figure out something. I am just feeling a little stressed because everything seems to be about money right now. I am unemployed at the moment and there seems to be more money going then coming in. So not only do I have the stress that comes with wedding planning, but I also have the stress of trying to find a job.

That sucks that you are having problems. I am getting married there this Saturday, I didn't take bridals so I can't give you any advice. When FI and I took our pictures we did them outside on a Sunday so maybe you can get all your inside shots done first and then move outside so you don't have to pay that fee. As for the trucks you do have to pay for them its been like that at least since I booked them but its sad that they didn't tell you when you first asked about it. I personally wouldn't pay to be able to take pictures by a truck but that's just me. They do have a tractor out back and they did have one white and red truck parked outside too that FI and I used for free.

Yea personally I would not pay to take pictures by a truck.  I get that you like them but in the scheme of things when you look back it will not be a big deal..I think you should take them on your wedding day by the trucks and call it a day.  The fee is crazy, I mean seriously I will detail them for you for free. Thats really outrageous that they think someone will actually pay that much.  I hope you get what you want and find a solution because paying 150.00 on top of everything else is not whats up.

Thank you everyone. As of right now, I am not going to pay 150 for the trucks. Yes, it sucks, but I refuse to pay that damn much just for a truck to take a picture next to. I am working with my photographer on a solution as she agrees that I shouldn't have to pay and extra charge just so I can get my pictures done.
