Hi All! I know this gets asked a lot but I'm having trouble finding the info--does anyone have a how to on changing your last name? thanks!

    I got married 3 weeks ago and am in the process of this...a big PIAyou need a certified copy of your marriage certificate (get it at town or city hall where your marriage cert was issued)first stop is social security office..they needed my lic and marriage certificate. They issued me a receipt that said I changed my name. They said I could proceed to the DMV the next day (it takes 24 hrs to update in the SS computers). I went to DMV the next day, it was something like 6$ to change my license..they needed the SS paperwork.I hit the bank today..they required a copy of the marriage cert. I've also called all credit cards..some required me to fax my marr. cert. some took my work.next on my list is car insurance and life insurance...credit cards and student loans are done.

    I second the name change being a big PIA as I got married on 10-10 and am in the process of taking care of everything. I have have done everything but the DMV which I am going to attempt on Sat at the Rhode Island Mall location.

    I am also in the process of changing my name.  So far I've gone to the SS office.  That's it.  DMV will probably be my last stop.  Hate that place.  I also have AmyRI's bio bookmarked! Very helpful, thanks!

    I haven't started this yet....but it sounds annoying!!  I am also changing my MA license to a RI license since I moved too.  And of course my car's registration expires at the end of the month....so much to do!

    Yeah, FI and I were talking about if I was going to change my name (he thinks I'll keep it, but I'm not sure yet) and then I sent him the link to Amy's name change page and he was like, "Holy crap, what a pain! You should definitely just keep it!"

    Glad people are finding my bio useful! :) I have to say, even though I always wanted to change my name, I would have to consider doing it again. Especially my car loan and the DMV have been a big PITA.
