Masquerade ball/wedding? Opnions

Hi I'm having my reception October 27th which is Saturday of the Halloween wedding..I don't want people to come in costumes I think that is tacky for a wedding..but considering people have to choose a Halloween party or my wedding I wanted to meet in the middle..what do you think as like a masquerade ball style..? I need the opnions but be gentle lol

Re: Masquerade ball/wedding? Opnions

  • It is an fun idea depending on your crowd, you know your guests best.  Another spin on it would be to set a formal tone for your event and then provide masks later in the night to be worn on the dance floor.  It all depends on how you think your guests would feel.  If it was mainly get dressed up with a beautiful mask I would love it.

I agree I think that can be a really fun idea, if you provide masks as the favor or have them like some people do flip flops at their wedding.  Websites like Orientaltrading.com and other websites sell bulk items for cheap.

Even if you do a masquerade theme for the cocktail hour, like a murder mystery type thing going on, but then after that, you go back to your formal reception.  There are plenty of ways you can play around with costumes, maybe even a photobooth (if in your budget), that way people have tons of props, things they can dress up in (which can be a favor), that way you are allowing them to dress up, but then take it off after and you still have the integrity of your formal wedding.

  • Thanks so much sometimes some of the ladies on here can be quite brutal..lol..do you think when I send out invites I should some how include masks optional or something like that? I just got my save the dates and were running with the Halloween weekend feel..
  • I would spread it through word of mouth or on the website but that is just me.  I wouldn't put it right on the invitation but if you are including a reception card or another insert that it could easily be added to.
  • I am not a huge fan of theme weddings but considering your wedding date is the Saturday of Halloween, it isn't such a bad idea. In fact, it sounds like a lot of fun! Like someone else suggested, having masks available as favors is a great idea. You can also incorporate the mask into the wedding invites or in the decor of the venue. Etsy has a ton of masquerade inspired items.

  • Thanks do much..I do agree giving masks as favors I even found some invites! http://handmadebymeda.blogspot.com/2010/02/cindys-21st-birthday-masquerade.html?m=1

<div>I love them! They look very elegant too. You can definitely DIY the pocketfold invites too. </div>
  • We are also getting married Oct 27th! We are having a Masqurade ball wedding! Everyone will wear normal wedding attire and we are providing masks and some guests are bringing there own. I think its a great idea, I highly reccomend it!
Where are you having the reception?
  • We're actually getting married in st.thomas and we come home the 20th and have the reception the 27th because there is only 40 of us going to st.thomas and we changed everything about a month ago so we still wanted to do something for the rest of our friends and family..so we're redoing this hall in warren with a bunch of drapery an decor..we had linden place booked when we were doing it there on September 1st and now there not available so we took what we could get..I am having trouble deciding on colors though..I noticed its more golds, reds, and purples..Where are you getting married and what is colors an what are you doing for decor?
  • I noticed some of the decor options seemed like a cheap theme party which I'm trying to stay away from
  • Sorry my response is so delayed, I don't get on here very often. Anyway, we are getting married at Theater by the sea in Wakefield. We are only doing centerpieces with fethers, peacock feather and colored reeds. But that is the only decor we are doing because the venue is nice and doesn't really need anything else.
