How many petals will I need to cover a 75 ft runner?

We are doing 3 different shades of purple that fade in to each other. We are going to hot glue them down so they don't get dragged by my dress. We will probably layer them a bit so it looks very full.
Has anybody done this? How many did you use?

Ummm, I wouldn't glue any petals down. It sounds messy, unnecessary and I don't think it will look good to be honest. And it would be a huge pain in the butt.

Check out Petalgarden.com.  I'd look into sillk petals. They are cheaper (especially if you'll be using a lot) and not messy. They have tons of colors and will send you free samples. They also have a great calculator to figure out how many you should get. It's down toward the bottom of the page. If you are set on real petals they have those too, as well as freeze-dried which would probably be easier than "fresh".

Using their calculator, to "densly" cover a 75 foot aisle (they approximate aisle width at 3 feet across) , you would need 22,500 silk petals.

  • We are planning on using silk petals. I don't even want to imagine glueing real ones down! But thank you. I'll check that site out.

Take a piece of paper that is one-inch squared and glue petals to it until it is covered to your liking. Calculate how many square inches need to be covered and multiply that number by how many petals are on your sample square.
  • What a pretty idea!!!

  • That's why we're getting started now. We have 8 months to finish it and a lot of helping hands. Thanks everyone!
  • I just have to tell you this story: I read the title of your post as "how many PETS do I need" and clicked on it because I was so baffled about what kind of wedding ceremony you were having!!!!

I had to laugh when I realized my mistake, and thought you might get a kick out of it too. And I have no idea either (a) how many pets or (b) how many petals it would take Smile
