Registering Vent

FI and I went to BB&B to register this weekend and I was totally caught of guard that we were not given the option to take the scanner ourselves and roam the store free. We were basically escorted around the store by their "wedding consultant" who was just suggesting things and then scanning for us when we made a decision. has this happened to anyone else or are we just really unlucky? i know the employee was trying to help/doing her job (?), and I guess I should have spoken up and told her we wanted to do it by ourselves right at the beginning, but i personally thought it was really intrusive. nothing like trying to pick out sheets with a stranger standing beside us chiming in. At the time I thought that it might be something that they do (macy's was really hands off) but I'm still really irked by it!

Re: Registering Vent

  • This happened to me also. She walked around with me and my MOH and my mom during the whole time my first time there I was so overwhelmed by here it aggravted me. When i went the second time with my FI that certain consultant wasn't there and the other woman just gave us the scanner and let us roam free. So apparently i guess it depends on who you get. We went to Macys also but everyone was ontop of us that I hated every second of it, so that is when we decided just to finish our registry at BB&B.

  • FI and I had the same experience initially at BB&B where he followed us around. At first it was helpful in picking out plates, but when I realized this was a permanent thing I asked him if we could have a few moments to talk things over. He took the hint and left us alone. We consequently returned a few weeks later to add a few things, and the girl just handed us the scanner and we were free to roam. So I think it's just the first time you're there that they follow you. Macy's was very hands off the whole time. Also don't forget online registering is the way to go! Then you can just go to the store and look at the items you added if you want to without any fuss.
Remember that these consultants are really sales people. They're tagging along to help you ask your guests to spend money at their store. So don't worry about going online later to remove stuff they talk you into!

  • Wow! I would be so put off by that. I mean especially because its basically a stranger standing next to you as you as discussing duvets and your home. I know it took fiance and I two hours at Macys just to start a registry and it was REALLY overhwleming. I think having someone chime in about the towels we chose or a color scheme would be really annoying- especially if the consultant doesnt' have the same taste.

We registererd at Macys in North Attleboro. I don't know where you live, but it was really nice there because it si only a home store, so t here aren't 1987876 people all over the place and crying children etc. It's only one floor and the lady is pretty hands off (her name I think is Harina) but she is there to help you if you need it.
We went right at noon on a Sunday (twice) so there was barely anyone in the store and we had it all to ourselves.

there was one woman there who was an employee who kept critiquing our choices and saying we should be getting non-stick cookware and registering for more glasses. She was just trying to help but even her being there for 5 minutes was annoying to me- so I can't imagine someone chirping about the entire time!

The only weird thing that happened to us when we were registering is that a weird man kept staring at my fiance and i in macys and finallyl after an hour he came up to us and asked what we were doing and if we were secret shoppers and why we were scanning items. He asked if corporate sent us.???? I think he just had no idea, it didnt looka s though he was married and he was working with a teenager who was looking at us also like we were doing something strange. He asked if we were allowed to be holding those scanners.....
it was kinda of funny, one of the woman came over and kind of ushered him off.

  • My partner and I just registered there last weekend and once it was clear that the person was going to go with us to pick out items I asked if we could just go around by ourselves.  The woman seemed a little suprised but was accomodating and checked in with us a few times but mostly left us alone.  I felt like she was pushy by bringing up certain "big ticket" items multiple times but finally I just told her that those weren't really things we were looking to register for (i.e. china) and she stopped. BB&B does seem to have the most pushy experience I've heard of.
