Finding Reviews when you can't get em' on the knot

So I have had trouble a few times finding reviews for vendors that weren't used by girls on the knot. I've tried wedding wire and googling but I can't really find any reviews-- (which makes me slightly nervous)

But I do know that the vendor Im looking for in particular (Dave anthony DJ) has been used a lot-- since he works for Ormande Productions from Barrington... but there arent a ton of reviews..
.
does anyone know of any "tricks" or other sites to use to find the reviews?!
er its really stressing me out. TIA

    Hi -

I also booked an unknown DJ (Sidney from DJ's etc) -- I looked for him on the knot, google, and basically everywhere I could think of.  But his prices were SO reasonable versus the other quotes that we ended up booking him (because it's hard to tell yourself it's worth it to pay twice as much for the same music).

Our wedding hasn't happened yet, but I'm SO glad we booked him.  Here's why:

    1.  Music is important to us, but we plan on asking any DJ to play the same music regardless.  In the scheme of things, this didn't fall to the tip-top of our priorities list... not because we don't care, but because we care about other things (like our guests eating a meal and getting to sit down) more.

    2.  He gave us a really positive first impression, we did our homework (asked for references and followed up), and we didn't have any real reason to be nervous, other than not knowing how he would be.  But really, do you ever know until it happens?

    3.  I can now use the part of the budget we aren't spending on a DJ for other things that I may have been too frugal with during our budget (omg, flowers are SO MUCH more than I thought).  YAY!

I know this isn't the advice you were looking for, but if you are in the same boat as me (and your gut says yes), then do it and worry about something else.  Otherwise, tell him "thanks, but I've decided to go a different direction" and keep looking.

    Hope this helps!

Thanks for this because Yes, I am in the same boat!
I dont want to end up paying twice as much for a DJ that can offer me teh same service as this guy.

The other thing is we would be booking him "on the side" at a signifcant discount than he gets working for the production company-- and when I look at those two prices its comparing apples to apples.

Thanks for that advice. I keep thinking that the 1200 dollars we save could be put towards transportation or even some uplighting and a bump up on the bar...

Ill also check out Yelp and Gigmasters thats a good idea!
