Dress Shopping?

I have been looking at dresses online for months now and I think I have an idea of what I want. The problem is these models wearing these dresses are nice and tall and I am only 5ft. I'm worried they are not going to look good on my smaller frame. Plus I want to go out and start to look but I really want my mom to be there but she lives in CO and isn't coming till late July. Should I start without her just to get ideas? I just don't want to lose the special moment when I put on the first dress and she's not there to share it with me. Any suggestions?

Def wait for your Mom. I was in the same boat. I moved to CA the day after my engagement and waited till chirstmas time when I was on the east coast to try on dresses, w/ Mom and MOH. I am also about 5ft, I did a lot of looking online and reading articles about body types & dresses. I had 2 dresses saved that I just kept looking at. So I called 7 stores looking to see who had both of them in MA or RI. Only 1 store, the Bridal Shoppe, had both. We drove an hour in the rain and it was so worth it, I ended up one of those 2 dresses and had a great experience. It was worth the wait to share that moment w/ my mom and best friend.

I was def tempted to try on dresses on the west coast but I am so glad I waited. Look online and send her links to keep her up on what you are leaning towards.

When is your wedding? If you have the time to wait, wait.I tried on a few dtesses before going with my mom at David's to get an iddea of what style I like. My mom is really hypercritical to a fault and so I was afraid if my first time i was with her- that'd she'd make me feel bad and I'd get upset.

I ended up regretting that i didn't wait. Although, I never told my mom I went before going with her.

I also ended up getting my dress at Bridal and Gift. I am 5'3, once everything is altered and proportionate it should be ok.
Usually the dress tore will have you try on multiple styles first to see which is most flattering on your body type.

  • Thanks for the advice. I was thinking of going with my bridal party which includes my sister(MOH) to look and trying a few styles and bringing my iPad so we could skype my mom so she can share without actually having to be there. I have been sending her pics of everything to keep her involved but I definitely will not make a decision without her.
