Hi all,

I started looking at photographers and fell in love with a few more well known photographers that seem to have a lot of experience. Prices were in the $8k range after including an album and engagement shoot.. is this normal? What is considered the "low end" and the "high end" of pricing, and how much or how little should I be expecting to spend to get high quality photo journalistic style pictures?

$8k is definitely on the very expensive end of the spectrum. The professional albums alone can cost close to $1k or more. I consider $4k and above to be "high end". These well-known photographers must be on The Style Me Pretty Little Black Book or the like - you know the well established photography studios featured in the bridal mags are going to have a higher asking price for their work.

I paid a little over $3k for two professional photographers, 1 assistant, full day unlimited coverage on our wedding day, an e-session, cinematic dvd, personal web site for photos, mini photo cards for guests and disc of edited high resolution photos with rights to reprint. I thought that was a splurge! We decided not to get an album via our photographers to save money. Here's an example of their work

Personally, I have seen some amazing photographers from all price range. It just depends on your taste and what you want in your package. I definitely recommend an e-session plus rights to your photos. Also, when choosing a photographer, make sure you guys "click" because that chemistry will translate in pictures and it will make the experience even better.

As for my favorite photo journalist photographers - Lisa Rigby does beautiful work. Also check out Kelly Dillion and Heather Chick. My photographers have a more modern style to their work, Visual-Obsession. Another great photography studio is BinaryFlips Photography. These are not budget photographers but they don't start in the 8k range - more around $2800 and above. G.L

I booked Valentino Photography. We just did our e-session with them and they came out amazing and they are fairly reasonable we paid roughly 2800. We are very happy with them. We also looked at Azure Photography, who is in your price range, and provide amazing work also. We didn't book them because we are on a tight budget.

I went to A Bride's Day, $2000 for two photographers all day and a cd of all the edited prints. I chose not to buy an album because they ar sooo easy to make on snapfish, york or even cvs.com. Manny was great and we loved his work. But 8k sounds astronomical to me! Ask for a break down of what each things costs from your photographers, maybe you can cut something...

8k is definetly, as the PP's mentioned, on the high end. Surely that must include an album which can really raise the prices.

What are you looking to spend? The girls on here can recommend photographers in all ranges.
From Memories RI who is on the low end, to Jennifer Leatherwood and Melissa Robotti who to me are medium to high end. To the REALLY high end like Carla Eckles---who has been featured many times over on all the wedding blogs.

$8K is high but not unheard of.  As I just said in a previous post, I wouldn't expect wow photos in a low price range so the higher priced, the better the quality typcailly.  

We booked The Murphys and put together a custom package that hovers around $3,000.
