Ocean Venues (that won't make me go broke)

Hi there!  We got engaged over the weekend & have started to look for venues.  We live in Boston but we were thinking about a wedding in RI.  My family is from CT, his is from DC & a good deal of friends/family will be flying in - so we definitely would LOVE a hotel venue.  We're looking for a place to fit ~ 150 guests and our budget is $30K.

Re: Ocean Venues (that won't make me go broke)

  • Atlantic Beach Club (ABC) in Middletown, R.I (right over the Newport line). Includes catering and various packages with no hidden fees and such. Gorgeous view!

Right down the street, Easton's Beach Rotunda Ballroom. Venue right on the beach! You can have your ceremony on the sand shores. By far the most affordable venue in Newport for a wedding of that size and it has sweeping ocean views that can't be beat. I am a bit bias because I was married there. They allow outside catering and you can host an open bar without breaking the bank! I also had a budget of 25k for 200 people. Check out my budget breakdown below.

Kinney Bungalow in Narragansett is a rustic venue with a beach view. Definitely a contender and worth checking out.

All 3 venues include info for pricing and other fees on the website.
  • We're using Kinney Bungalow for our wedding.  It isn't right on the water, but it's very close (maybe a 5 minute drive) -- so if you wanted some pictures on the water, it's definitely do-able.  We wanted a venue with some historic character near the water that wouldn't make us go broke.  We thought Kinney had the best charm and character in our price range.
  • We're using Warwick Country Club for our wedding.  It's surrounded by water and even has views of the Newport Bridge.  Worth checking out!
  • ROYALORIENT,

Sorry I tried sending a private message but am new to The Knot and not sure how to :)

But we too are getting married at Easton Beach.  Who did you use for a caterer?  I just looked at your link above about catering and bar and LOVE those prices!  We cannot find anything in that area but that would be perfect.  What type of dinner was it (sit-down, buffet, etc.)?

Any help you can provide would be GREATLY appreciated.  If easier to email, my email is coopman41e@yahoo.com

    Thanks for your help!
  • We got married at Regatta Place on Goat Island last year. Our guest list was about 120 and we spent WELL under that! It's on a dock overlooking Newport harbor. Totally breath-taking. In a permanent tent. Food was delicious. Everyone absolutely raved about the views and how much space there was to move around. It was totally wonderful. The best part for me was that I didn't have to deal with multiple vendors like hiring caterers and such - it was all included. It made my life so much easier.
Don't forget that you save money if you do a "shoulder season" wedding (Oct - April) or a Fri night or a Sun. We did a Sunday of Columbus Day weekend.

I love this venue. Is there a rental fee or minimum? It's tough getting info during the busy season!
  • We had a Food and Beverage Minimum of $10,000 but it varies depending on time of year etc. The rental fee was $2,500 last October for a Sunday. It is truly spectacular place, you won't regret it. If you have additional questions, feel free to send me a PM (but I'd suggest posting on the board that you sent me one b/c I NEVER check my PMs lol).

  • I got married at OceanCliff in may and it's absolutely beautiful there and so is the view. They are awesome to work with.

  • My fiance and I will be holding our reception at the Officer's Club on the Navy Base. The ballroom is absolutely beautiful, there are two sprawling deck bars, and the whole building is located right at the base of the Newport Bridge. You need to have a sponsor (i.e. an active Navy officer or high ranking civilian employee of the Navy), and there is a minimum guest count for the Grand Ballroom (165 people), but the bar is by consumption, the food is delicious (they gave us a tasting last month and we were delighted with the results), and its completely affordable when compared to other Newport waterfront venues. Congratulations and good luck with your venue shopping!
  • There is also the Weekapaug Inn (http://weekapauginn.com/home/)that is reopening, I'm not sure of pricing but the spot is stunning and since they are reopening after a complete renovation you may get a good deal.
