Outdoor wedding

My fiance and I have recently decided to change our wedding date from May to August for financial reasons. I've always wanted an outdoor wedding but I'm worried that August will be too hot for our guests. Would an early August wedding be horrible for an outdoor wedding. We may do an inside reception to let them cool off and stick with a light dinner. If anyone has done this before please tell if it worked for you. Thank you!

Is your wedding in TN? I'm from KY, and would worry about the heat and humidity. But if it would only be outside for the ceremony, and you could keep it on the shorter side, it may work.

What type of outdoor venue are you thinking? A nice shady area, maybe a wooded park or barn, could work, but you wouldn't want your guests baking in the middle of an open field, kwim?

If you do choose a sunny spot, make sure to rent wooden chairs. No one wants to burn their tuckus on hot metal.

Definitely offer cold drinks. Bottled water in ice tubs would be fine. A lemonade stand could be really cute too.

Have fans available. Our programs were on sticks to double as fans: they were a pain to make, but guests really appreciated them.

Maybe you could have your wedding later in the evening, when things start to cool down, or maybe a morning wedding (around 10:30 or 11 am) with brunch after would get everyone inside before it gets too hot.

I got married outdoors in August.  It was just over 70 degrees, partly sunny, with a very light breeze -- it was beautiful! However, I got married in Wisconsin, not Tennessee.  And, the week before it was nearly 100 degrees.  So, the heat is definitely something to consider.

What about you as the bride? I got engaged in August but would never get married in the summer because I would sweat like a pig.
