Looking for somewhere to go out after....

We are looking for somewhere to go out after the wedding! Our wedding is in May and ends at 5pm so we want to keep the party going! Does anyone know of any good places to go that has a decent bar? Not sure on how many people will be coming, its an open invitation to anyone attending the wedding. Thanks for your help!

  • Where were you thinking? Newport? Providence? That would help narrow it down :-)

  • Sorry, I forgot to add that part! Looking for somewhere in the Newport/ Middletown area.

  • LOL no worries....
What is your venue and are you looking for walking distance?
If you don't care about walking distance, we then need to narrow it down by "feel".
If you're looking for some place cozy and welcoming but still big enough for groups, I'd recommed Buskers on Thames Street. It's an Irish Pub, often with live music on weekends (usually a one man band) and a really great beer selection. If you're looking for trendy/chic, try Christy's. They have great martinis and I believe a dance area. If you're looking for a more hoppin' joint, try The Pelham (also on Thames) or Clark Cooke House (on a wharf). Pelham has larger sized bands (sometimes 80s bands!!) and can get quite crowded/loud, but the music is always great. Clark Cooke House is a more posh place with a dance club below. Note that bands don't usually start until around 9PM and often mean there's a cover charge unless you get there before 9.
If any of the these "feels" strike your fancy and you want more suggestions let me know! I can keep going :-)

  • Thanks! I will be looking into them and hopefully one of them is a good fit for us!

  • I'm getting married in newport in May 2013! and I too was looking for an after party party spot! I think the landing would be pretty nice, but i was also wondering if i should rent out a room from somewhere and where I could do that...
  • The Landing is fun, I'd categorize it as more of a night club feel. Not my personal favorite, but then again I'm 31 and "old" lol.
I'm not sure about renting out a room for the after party. Once you do that you get into more expenses, but if it's in your budget, you could try Buskers - they have an upstairs I believe they rent out. The Moorings might also be able to do that.
At our hotel, we rented the entire bridal suite, which was really 3 rooms, and the middle, huge room we used for the afterparty. It had a refrigerator, couches, bar, table (beer pong!) and bathroom. We provided wine, beer, and stoli doli. We also got cheese and cracker plates and cookies and chips from the market so folks would have stuff to nibble on, and ordered a few pizzas later. It was a HUGE HIT! Just an idea. And it's cheaper since you're buying your own alcohol. We didn't have to worry about cleaning it for sleeping either since it was a separate room from ours. Totally worth it.
