I bought my dress in July 2010 for my May 2011 wedding...I had no idea if I even wanted a veil and I thought I had so much time to think about it....so I had a hair trial in Oct. or Nov just taking my leisurely time...then realized right after Christmas that I might want to do my hair differently than my trial and really considered a veil especially since our ceremony is in a church..I felt I had to have a veil...So with just under 4 months to go at the time, I purchased my veil from the Bridal Garden in East Greenwich...I took my dress there, literally right before my first fitting, two of my maids came and I tried on about 15 veils. Finally came to a decision and I'm psyched! I can't speak highly enough about the ladies at the Bridal Garden.

So - I guess I wouldn't change a thing about how I did things up to this point...Though it's kinda pricey to have two trials, it's worth it and it's fun, and I am getting to know my hair stylist more and more. My next (second/final) trial will be with my veil when it comes in (takes about 4 weeks). If you think you're a veil person, I'd try on your dress at a store, and try on every veil you're even remotely interested in, from birdcage to cathedral length...trying on so many different types really helped me narrow it down to my final decision...and it was fun to play around :) This only happens once!  You also might discover you just want a flower in your hair versus a veil.

Other locations for veils - Cinderella's, Ana's, Helene's, Alexandra's, Sassy n Classy, and Simply Dainty...pretty much all bridal shops sell them. Also check out Etsy Weddings.

As far as cost goes, I saw prices ranging from $100-300 depending on designer, detail and number of layers. I paid $200 for mine.

Long story, but I hope it somewhat helps :)

I went to Simply Danity in search of shoes and accessories today and found a plethora of beautiful veils and hair combs/pins/fascinators. Eileen was very helpful. She put my hair up in a lose bun and we played around with different hair  accessories. I have a dress fitting in early March and she is allowing me to borrow a couple of different hair pieces to see if they will work with my dress and the mantilla veil which I purchased off Ebay preowned for $15 (brand new version availabe on Etsy) I also have a long waltz length single layer veil given to me by my aunt. I am waiting to hear back from my hair stylist so I can book my hair appointment on the same day as my dress fitting and my appointment at Simply Dainty. Price wise is comparable to the fine pieces I found on Etsy. The custom made hair accessories does take up to 8 weeks to produce. I am also going to check out  Erina and The Bridal Garden too! I feel it is a little more difficult to buy hair accessories online versus to having your hair done and going to the store and trying them on to see if it works.

I agree about Simply Danity. She has great stuff at a pretty reasonable price. She is  very helpful, I found a veil that I love there (haven't purchrased it yet). But when my dress comes in she is going to let me borrow it so I can try it on with my dress.

I looked at many of the stores mentioned above but I just couldn't justify the cost of the ones I liked there. I bought mine online at www.obridal.com at the recommendation of some girls on my month board. I loved, loved my veil and it was $58 plus I paid for priority shipping, so it was $65 total. I thought I'd take it out after the ceremony but I loved it so much I kept it in all night! I did a custom cut so it was elbow length in the back but a bit shorter in the front. I got a lot of compliments on it.

You can look through a whole gallery to see what you like and it gives you the specs of that veil. They are all made to order and they rushed mine for me so I'd have it by my hair trial. I had it two days after I ordered and it was very high quality for the price, compared to some I'd seen in stores.

For anyone interested in that site, I think I still have the swatches my friend on my month board sent me and I'm happy to pass them along (assuming I can find them!)

Just wanted to say, I bought my dress from the Bridal Garden and I agree. I love the staff there! They're not all girly and disgusting like at some places. They help you, they're honest, and I highly recommend them.

If I wasn't making my veil, I'd go there. (Bringing the brides maids there though in a couple weeks.)

I went to Simply Dainty for my headpiece. ( I already have my viel because it was thrown in for free with my gown!)  I agreee they were very helpful; put my hair up and let me try on several peices.  They had a great selection and I ended up ordering custom jewelery from them as well!

I second the recommendation to get your veil online--whether it's a veil retailer, Etsy, or eBay--I chose to have a simple, two-tier, finger-tip length veil (I need a blusher for my ceremony), and it was $17.  It's exactly the same quality as many of the veils I tried on in stores for $200+, which completely blows my mind.  You can also order more elaborate veils online, though if you want to match a lace or an unusual color, a real store may be your best bet.  It's also possible to have a seamstress custom make a veil for you if you buy the materials, which is still usually way cheaper than buying a pre-made veil.
