photographer suggestions

hi ladies!

i am starting to look at photographers.  while i value the traditional shots, i really love photo-journalism style photography.  i plan to spend a lot of time on the little decorative details and i want to hire someone who can capture the "essence" of the event.

sooo, with that being said, does anyone have any recommendations?

thank you!!

Re: photographer suggestions

  • Can you share a budget or a range with us?  That would help us give you recommendations.
  • i am hoping to be in the $2,500 range for their services and get rights to the photos.  i plan to use them for an engagement session as well.

how much do albums typically cost?

    thanks!
  • I love our photographer, Sabrina Scolari. We booked her instantly after meeting with Brad Smith, Susan Sancomb and Nicole Gesmondi. Our package is expensive, I think too much for what you are looking to spend but she has been customizable and more than accomodating for what we need. She is also super sweet.  If I were you- I would look into Susan - she has packages starting at 2,850. Brad is about the same, although his parent albums aren't great. We didn't like Nicole - her photos were not the same caliber. Keep in mind that an album, although in most packages in included start at at least 1,000...at least for the photogs I looked into. This is something that I was not aware of first starting out...we have put a lot into photography but it's important to FI and it's really the only thing we will have left once the hoopla of the wedding is over. Side note- we also looked into and had apmts with: Aubrey Greene, Cailtlin Maloney, Armor and Martel, Hello Love, Melissa Stimpson. All of those we either canceled after meeting Sabrina or they were unavailable for our date. (9/14/12)
    Hope this helps!

My photog is awesome! Matt Ferrara - mattferraraphotography.com

His prices are very reasonable, his photos are of great quality, and his personality is awesome! I have some photos from our engagement session if you want to see some - we are not up on his site yet.

  • For my wedding in July we hired Valentino Photography. We paid roughly 2800 for 8-9hrs for 2 photographers, a album, and free engagment session with them. They are very reasonable in price and they are very nice and pleasant people.

  • We are going with Olivia Gird for our wedding.  She should fall within your budget, depending on all the "extras" you want.
  • I second Hello, Love
We are paying around $2100 and getting everything but an album.
I intended to use Iphoto after to create some more inexpensive albums (they run 60-200$)

  • Oh man, my budget is around 1,000 for photography.  So many of these companies charge an arm and a leg!  I know people who are spending 4 grand on a photo package! Yikes!
  • I booked DB Photography for my wedding, their packages start at less than 2k. I think they have a GREAT personality and loved their work.
I know that Iris Leaf Photography, JMT Photography, and Jaime DiNobile all start at under 1k. I did a little research on them, but never met with them because I had already booked with DB.
Personally, I would opt out of buying albums directly from a photographer, that's where they make their money and I've seen albums for more than half the price and just as good quality from photo sites like snapfish. Groupon and Living Social are always posting deals for them too. I met with Valentino Photography and they were veryyy pushy on the album even though I told them I was just looking for x amount of hours and a CD/DVD with all images and copyrights. Also thought he was a bit cocky, but that's just me.
