Providence Hotel Blocks

Hi Ladies.

Does anyone have suggestions/experiences regarding hotel blocks in downtown Providence?  I originally wanted to go with the Downtown Providence Marriott because its between the Church and the Reception, and I've stayed there a few times in the past. I'm running into issues since they will only block 15 without obligation (which might be pretty common at most hotels?). Their discounted room rate is reasonable but their "discounted" price for a bridal suite, which I need for two nights, is MUCH more expensive than I am williing to pay. My mom wants everyone to stay at the same hotel, since we are doing a shuttle to the reception and hosting a brunch the following day for out of town guests. Has anyone had better luck at other hotels in that area that might be worth checking out? I have no idea how many rooms might be needed-- possibly anywhere from 15-40! My wedding is next September but I wanted to get this taken care of.

Thanks!!

Our mass is in Providence and our reception is in Rumford, which is why we were looking in the downtown Providence area. We are also thinking about the Courtyard Marriott, but I'm definitely worried that once the 15 rooms are booked, there might not be many more available, since the hotel is smaller. I might as well take a look at the Westin too. Thanks!

hmmm I would try to ask your reception place if they have any ideas - if it is in rumford - you may want to look at hotels that are close in MA too.

my wedding is next september and I already did the room blocks too. we have a TON of OOT guests too. I think 10-15 is the standard amount for hotel blocks. I blocked 4 hotels and told guests about another 3. I didn't book in Providence - my reception is in Middletown - where is yours? Depending on where - the Crowne Plaza may be a good choice over in Warwick or I have heard good things about the Courtyard Marriott and Westin.

we had our room block at the biltmore and they were fantastic. joy is great to work with. we ended up with 40 rooms booked there, and there was no obligation to pay for unused rooms or anything like that (we reserved blocks of 20 rooms, and then joy would add on rooms 10 at a time for us after they got booked). our guests loved staying in such a beautiful historic hotel, the rates were extremely reasonable, and it was one of the best parts of our wedding having everyone there! we also had our brunch there, which made things really convenient for our guests. our wedding and reception were at roger williams casino, so we had a shuttle bus running to and from the biltmore for them, which worked out really well. good luck!
