Re: Astors' Potential Sale Rant

I haven't heard anything though I'm heading to Newport next week and meeting with Sharon so we'll see if she gives me any additional info or if I can read her at all.
I did hear back about the Elms and Marble House. The director said that they are opening up the Elms, but not Marble House as there is a special exhibit there all summer.
If anyone knows anything, I'd love to hear an update.

It is over. We got an email that Astors has been sold and the last wedding is July 31.

They are returning deposits, but this is a breach of contract. Does anyone want to hire an attorney and sue them for damage. Try and find another venue! It is near impossible.

What do you mean the cut off date is July 31st?  I thought the contract between Astor's and the new owners was to allow weddings to proceed until August 5th?

Thanks Jlanni for the info!  I'm happy you found Blithewold!  That was my first choice, but the costs were a bit too high for us.  You're wedding is going to be absolutely perfect!  Do you have legal advice on what I should do about making sure there will be no renovating going on while my wedding is in progress?  And making sure that the new owners don't paint the walls black right before my wedding?

I moved my wedding up so i will still be having it at Astor's.  I spoke to the owner and we are getting a legal letter signed that will promise that Astor Beechwood's property/ venue will be ready, maintained/ same condition, and that everything will run the same as before.  This whole situation is a mess.  I now need to find another photographer and band (I loved them both and they were so amazing to work with and so understanding through this process).  My photographer send me a huge list with a ton of venues- if anyone is interested?  It breaks my heart that I am losing her and probably will loss all my deposits ( i hope they work with me and make an exception as this situation is out of our control).

If anyone has band or photographer recommendations please pass them my way.

I'm sorry everyone - this is just an awful situation!!! I just heard this weekend that the terms had been re-negotiated and now the August 5 date was null and void and they moved it up to July!!!! They should certainly know by now the final details of the agreement ... I hope it works out for everyone ... :(
