Night before wedding drinks/appetizers

Hi all!

We are getting married on a Sunday in July this summer. Our rehearsal is in the afternoon and we are having a late lunch to follow. We would love to have appetizers/drinks at a restaurant with our friends (about 30) in Newport the night before our wedding. We want something more laid back b/c we are having a pretty formal rehearsal lunch. I worry that many places will charge a minimum for that many people on a Saturday night. Do you have any ideas?

Thanks!

  • So funny, I should have read your post before I posted my own.

First to answer your question: Perhaps a fun place like Red Parrot or Brick Alley pub that are great tourist spots of people out of town and have a casual atmosphere.

This might be a bit too casual but I really liek Griswolds. Its kind of a weird little place but the food is good and cheap and there is plenty of space for 30 people.

Also- Can you let me know more about your rehearsal luncheon. Do you think you are saving money? Are you having issues with people doing it in the middle of the day?

  • I agree that Red Parrot would be a great option. It's plenty big and has TONS of options for food. Their menu is literally in binders. The only downfall is finding parking but if you don't mind walking it's perfect.
Even more casual would be Busker's Irish Pub on Thames. I love it there. Great variety of beers, cozy atmosphere. There's even an upstairs you may be able to reserve without a fee. I'm not sure how that works.
Or Yesterday's. Also a great place with yummy food. Lots of beer choices and yummy stoli dolis.
If you want something on the water check out H20. I'm not sure of their prices, but they have a great deck right on the harbor.

  • Thanks for the ideas! I like the idea of being on the water. I have to chat with these places to see if they will reserve us a space and work with what we are looking for. i can keep you all updated!

Regarding the reherasal lunch - it is working out really well. We are getting married on a Sunday in July, so to find a reasonably priced restaurant on a Saturday night duirng this time is unrealistic. We went with 22 Bowen's and they are awesome. Their minimum is far more reasonable during lunch. Our guests are all coming in from out of town, so we made the lunch for 2:30 to make sure people could drive in that morning. Let me know if you have other questions!
