Chanler Brides-Open Bar

Hello everyone!

My fiance and I will be getting married next June at the Chanler in Newport, RI.  I've been looking over their menu and I'm a little scared of their open bar pricing.  They charge $24 per person for the first hour, and then $10 per person for each hour after that.  I've asked about a consumption bar, and they're willing to offer it, but their estimate for a consumption bar for 70 people ends up being just about the same price as if I chose the open bar.

My question is, has anyone ever gotten married at the Chanler and chosen the open bar option?  If not, did you have a consumption bar and were the prices reasonable?  I'd really rather not spend over well over $4000 (after tax and tips) on alcohol for 70 people.

Thank you so much in advance for your help!

I thought $18 per hour/ppl was bad at mine. Im not getting married in Newport but could you ask about beverage jars? My venue doing Sangria or watermelon stoli jars for us and then maybe offsetting with consumption beer and wine. Our beverage jars are $150-350 each. Just a thought.

  • That seems obnoxiously high
  • Thank you ladies.  I am hoping to speak with the venue about our options in hopes of avoiding their open bar prices.

Does anyone else out there have advice about open bar vs. consumption?  I've read a few different threads about it, but I'd love to have some info. from a Rhode Island/Newport area bride.

    Thank you in advance!
