Night out in Newport

Hi Ladies:

I don't go out to Newport very often so I don't know where the best places are. Can any of you recommend any good bars and restruants for a good 'ol fashion girls night out?

TIA!

Re: Night out in Newport

  • dberrett is the queen of things to do in NPT as she is a local!  But some of my favorite places are Brick Alley Pub for beer and good food, Star Bar is a fun bar atmosphere, The Landing is fun, has live music and a dj/club atmosphere, Newport Blues Cafe, Rhino Bar, Sandbar is pretty far down, but with a big group of girls they do buy one get one specials.  One of my favorite holes in Newport is Celtica, it's an irish bar, a bit seedy, but they kareoke on Friday nights.  We did that for a bachelorette party and sung It's Raining Men....we brought down the house lol.  Fastnet Pub on broadway is also another fun hangout.

  • LOL My reputation precedes me! Oh dear, I hope I'm not annoying about it! :-)
When will you be going out? That can make a difference on the crowds you'll encounter.  LOMLBOAT mentions great places and a nice variety. Star Bar never has a cover charge but can tend to be a younger crowd (to me - I'm in my early 30s). If you want dancing I'd strongly recommend either the Landing or Christie's. The Landing is on the water (literally, on a dock), and Christie's offers a more trendy vibe - way fun, and great martini menu and specials! If chill is more your speed, Busckers is my fav - an Irish Pub on Thames St. Never a cover there, and they usually have a solo musician playing. After 9PM there is a cover at Blues Cafe BUT you can go there for dinner (say, 7:30) and stay for the live entertainment for free. Sweet! Sanbar is a Tapas place that's really yummy but PP is right - it's pretty far down Thames. The Red Parrot is probably the most fun restaurant with an amazingly huge menu! Make reservations though - always packed. So if you want to stay within easy walking/stumbling distance, here's what I'd recommend:
Start your night off for dinner at Red Parrot. Walk a block to 22 Bowen's bar and have the best Stoli Doli martini of your life. Walk another block and hit up either the Blues Cafe for a live band or The Pelham - they're a stone's throw from each other. Personally I enjoy the Pelham bands more (often have 80s bands - fun!!) but it can get very crowded in there if that's a concern. Once you're sick of either of those places, walk another block down the street to the no-cover charge solice of Busker's, chill, and have a few beers. Then go to the Landing and dance some more. Once you're danced away, walk back towards Red Parrot, but a little beyond it, to Via Via and get a slice or two of their pizza. It's really good late night/buzzed pizza. All of these places are like a 5 minute walk from each other.
I hope I didn't throw too much at you! Let me know if you have any more questions :-)

  • Thanks for the ideas! I am going 1st week of May. I sound like a bad Rhode Islander for not knowing Newport since i only go to see the mansions once in a great while. So again Thank you! :)
