Dress Shopping

Starting to look for dresses any suggestions. I have a designer taste and would like to stay within a smaller budget. Any tips

I really liked Alexandria's in Fall River.  Carol is a consultant who could work at Kleinfeld's.  She's just amazing.

I'm also going to the Bridal Garden in East Greenwich.  I noticed they carried Amsale, Lazaro, Kenneth Pool, Monique Lhuillier and Alvina Valenta.  I was really excited when I read the lines they carry.

I liked Wishing Well.  Ana's is right near there so you could go to both stores in one day.  Wishing Well has more of a selection but Ana's carries the higher designers (at a price though!).

i wore a maggie sottero dress. i got it at Ana's...I saw it at 2 other places--they beat the other salons by about $200

if you want designer names--a good place to go is Sueno in Smithfield RI. She has lots of higher end designers and the owner is soooo nice. You might be able to get a deal on a sample--something I couldn't fit my butt into :)

I have to agree Scott is fabulous !  He knew exactly what dress would look great on me and his enthusiasm is unbelievable.

I went to three places - Wishing Well, Cinderella's and Ana's (ended up buying at Ana's). Scott wasn't there the night I tried on at Cinderella's but Callie helped me try on every dress and she was so nice. Not a big selection at all though.

Comparing Ana's to Wishing Well...I have to say I liked Ana's better.

I tried on at EG Birdals and Bridal Garden last year...between the two I liked Bridal Garden better.

    Happy shopping!

I bought mine at Ana's Bridal.  It's nice because you actually work with Ana!  I did go to Wishing Well and they also had a large selection.  I just liked the personal feel of Ana's.  I didn't feel like just another bride.  I've been in twice and eveyone already knows me and treats me and my family like friends.  Not to mention they had "The Dress" and Wishing Well did not:)  Good luck and have fun!!!

If your in the Boston area - try out Vows in Newton (or maybe Watertown?).  They have all designer lables - but they are either sample dresses or were worn on the runway once.  You can get an amazing designer dress for a very reasonable price.  I believe its hit or miss - but I know alot of people that have done very well there!

if you are looking for designer taste on a limited budget, why dont you try the specilaty lines for davids bridal?
There is one Galiana for Davids bridal that iw as shcoked to see. the dress was gorgeous and honestly, it was so reasonable.

also, i  am surprisingly finding that Vera Wang has some affordable pieces.

also, not sure because i have never been- but my married friends told me the best time to shop at a place liek Priscilla of Boston is during a trunk show- sometimes the gowns are as much as 15-20% off.

Running of the Brides is NEXT MONTH. Take your chances there and see if you can score a designer dress for a recession price ($249-$699). I know past brides on here have had great success. August 20th in Boston. Go later if you want to avoid the crowd.

I got my dresses @ running of the brides! My mom, bridesmaid and I showed up around 11 and there were tooooons of dresses left and you didn't have to fun around like a nut. You could actually walk around and see what was on the rack. I ended up finding two I loved and at the price ($250 each) I could get both! I would go with a minimum of three people though, one to guard your pile and and two to search the racks.

I bought my Maggie during a trunk show at NY Lace. in Taunton.  Returned with my 11 bridesmaids, who got all their dresses there too!  Good Luck!

Good luck getting your dress once you order it at Cinderella's!  My wedding is in 6 weeks and they still can't "find" my dress.  I ordered it August 11, 2009 and they told me it would be in in March.  Then when I called in April they said the manufacuterer pushed it back to June 16th.  Now it's end of July and still no dress.  So far they've blamed the volcanoes overseas, told me the dress was in China, New York, and now Chicago.  Last update was they received the wrong dress.  So far, they have not once apologized and haven't called me once to give me updates.  We gave them until Saturday, then we're demanding our 60% deposit back.

So yes, first impression of Cinderella's was great.  Now I really wish I could just get the deposit back and go to Ana's.  I bought all the bridesmaids dresses there and a short dress for myself, and zero problems.

So good luck getting your dress.  I will NEVER recommend Cinderella's to ANYONE.  Maybe if they called me to tell me my dress was missing or apologized I'd say go for it.  They told me it's normal for a dress to take a year to come in.... I called Ana's who carries the same dress and they told me they can order it and have it ready in 6 weeks!
