How do I handle this?

Hey everyone I need some advice... I booked my venue for my September 2012 wedding and the reason I chose this place over another was they were extremely flexible and the coordinator understood my vision and I trusted her.. I have only gave my deposit so far but the country club has been calling me every day some days 4 times in one day starting the week before Xmas and week after and I didn't even realize it was them so I finally return the call and I guess the coordinator that I had been dealing with for the last year is no longer there and the woman that replaced her was rude and I want to make sure everything I was promised is still going to happen..this woman can't find any of my documents not even my contract...I found out my second venue choice is still available and I want to switch but I want my deposit back how should I handle it?? Any suggestions? Thanks!!

Please know that this happens all the time.  I'm sure numerous brides will chime in that their initial point person left their job before their wedding.  Working at a wedding venue is ridiculously stressful, the hours are brutal and the pay is low.  Which is why there is a lot of moving around.

I had a similar situation happen to me with my catering company where there were tons of changes with staff. 

I'd maybe try to meet with this new person and see if maybe she was just having a bad day.  Starting a new job can be difficult.  It sounds like this person might have not left all the ducks in a row upon exit.  Maybe you will connect with the new person if you meet in person.  If not, find out if there is someone else on staff that you can work with.  Large venues often have multiple banquet captains/coordinators.  

Trust your gut.  If you give it a chance and you still are having a hard time, you might want to consider moving your wedding.

Do you have a copy of the contract that you can show them so that they know that they have booked that date for you and should either honor it or give you the deposit back? Or are you just ready to change your venue?

I agree with PP, try to talk to the new coordinator if you can bring the contract that will help.  Explain your concerns and also give her background on why you picked the venue.  If she doesn't understand then I would elevate it above her to make it clear that the venue is not holding up their end of the contract.  This will allow you more leverage should you decide to switch venues and hopefully get your deposit back.

We had a similar situation with our ceremony location, my initial reaction was to jump ship and go to our second choice.  Now that we have stood by our contract, I couldn't be happier.  Just remember why you picked that venue and stress that to her.
