Ball Parking MUA and Hair Costs

I thought I saw old posts about prices for hair and making ... but I can't find them now.

My wedding is a whiles out, but my mom and FMIL keep asking me about my hair and make-up now... (we don't even have a date, it's sort of cute, but sort of....annoying).

Before I thought I would skip it altogether, but whenever I say I will...they tell me I HAVE to (once in a lifetime this, you'll be washed out that, 'but don't you want to look pretty?')

I don't even think it's in my budget.  So I thought I'd put feelers out.  Does anybody know the 'running price' ranges for?:

Hair
Make up
Airbrush makeup

I would probably  go to a studio/salon, because I feel it would be less expensive.  Therefore...I'd prefer to stick to South County.

TIA

I would ballpark about $100 for hair and $100 for makeup

Make up application for the bride is between $75-$125.
Hair cost is typically between $65-$100.

    - There is usually a travel fee if you want the hair stylist or make up artist to travel to your location on the day of the wedding.
    - Prices for bridesmaid and guests are slightly less.
    - Most make up artist charge more for air brush make up than for traditional application.

My hair stylist Sam C charges $40 plus a $20 travel fee. She charges the same for the bride, bridesmaid and guests. My make up artist, Sara Faella charged $75 for everyone. Her rates have since increased but her glam squad has a lower rate for both hair and make up. She also charges the same for air brush make up. The travel fee was free since it was under 60 miles. Rates are on her site.

I think my hair was $125 including the trial? Some people like Sam C. charge less, but I knew that going into it and I wanted my regular stylist to do it. (Plus she was awesome and totally worth it; she zipped me into my dress and helped carry all my stuff from the hotel room to my car before I took off in the limo.)

MIL paid for makeup but it was $40 for the trial, $70 for the day of plus a $25 traveling fee. She got hers done too and it was less - $25 for trial and $40 for the day at MUA's studio.

I totally recommend doing both, even if that means putting away $5 a week for it starting now. Seriously. It made all the difference in my photos. Plus, you don't want to be doing these things yourself that day; you will want to relax and be pampered! That's worth one less trip to DD or some other little luxury each week, no? Wink

    Hey Tia,

I'm stressing about the cost of hair & makeup, too but I know I'm going to at least have my own done (still debating about me paying for everyone else's, but will of course at least give them all the option of getting it done, even if they have to pay themselves)

I'm also in South County.  I haven't done a lot of shopping around here yet b/c I had my heart set on having someone come to the house (which I, too found to be in the $75-$100 for mua, a little less for hair maybe) - now i'm thinking it will be much less expensive to go to a salon somewhere so i'm entertaining that idea.  That in mind, it seems most of the places girls talk about on these boards are closer to Providence (which wouldn't be doable for me with my ceremony in Narragansett).
I'm thinking of trying Spa Mosaic (in south county commons)  -  I'll probably have a trial there b/c I have a friend who works there, so I'll keep you posted. I'd like to have my regular stylist (at Mars Attracks in Wakefield) do my hair but we'll see - I'm not sure if they do weddings...

good luck, and I'll definitely keep you posted on my experiences in south county!

Sam C is doing my hair my wedding in three weeks (eek!), and as RoyalOrient said, her rate is $40/pp and $35 for a trial with a $20 travel fee. It will be tough to find someone who charges less for a wedding updo.

Kristin Greene is doing my makeup. I just got the photos from my trial, and her $100 rate for brides is worth every single penny. I could never, ever do my makeup the way she did and I want to be relaxed that morning. I know it's a splurge, but it's worth it to me.

Both Sam and Kristin are travelling to our venue in Narragansett.

I lived in South County for a long time, and I often went to Robert Anthony Salon (across from Arturo Joe's) in Narragansett. They had weddings in there often for makeup and hair, so I know they could be a possibility. I never had my makeup done their, but their rates for cuts/color were reasonable so it might be worth looking into.
