Venues

hi!
I was wondering if you guys could give me some insight on venues in RI. We live in CT but were looking for a place in RI, we would like to be on the beach and will have about 100 people. Iv tried looking into rentting a big house, but i havent had any luck at that. We will be paying for everything our self so we are trying to keep the prices down. Any suggestions would be awsome! Thank you!

Re: Venues

  • Hi and welcome!
If you're looking for beach, you've come to the right state! I can help you with the Newport area, and I know other girls on this board will be able to offer ideas not in Newport. In Middletown there's the Atlantic Beach Club, which is just over the boarder from Newport. It's literally overlooking the Atlantic, and a huge beach. They have an outside patio area where they do ceremonies, and upstairs enclosed area for the reception. It's lovely and pretty cost efficient. You could also find the Rotunda, also right on the beach overlooking the Atlantic. It's run by the City of Newport, so you'd find that on their website. I'm not sure of the pricing though. The moderator of this community had her reception there so I'm sure she could be of more help.
You could also scout out Regatta Place. It's not on the beach, but it's over looking Newport Harbor; it's literally on a dock! I had my reception there and they're amazing! You can have your ceremony on a dock, and the cocktail hour, then dinner and dancing is in a permanent tent that has chandaliers and mahogany floors. It's so gorgeous! The cost is really reasonable, too. The site fee varies, but in 2010 when we booked you could do the reception for as low as $75/person.
One thing I'll suggest is look at the websites. Scope out the pictures and narrow down to a few you want to see in person, then schedule a day or two to come visit. Do not discount a place based on the prices you find online. Often, after meeting with the sales agent, you'll find prices are extremely negotiable. They're even more so if you're willing to do a Friday or Sunday wedding. And "off" season rates will help, too. "On" season tends to be May-September. We got married on a Sunday and saved a ton of money. Just something to consider if you haven't already! Happy hunting! Let me know if you have more questions!

  • I vote for atlantic beach club! only because my wedding is there in September :) if you'd like any info on it, just let me know! i would also suggest quidnessett country club in north kingstown. they are very affordable and can accomodate your group. it's on a golf course but there are great views of the narragansett bay. also, I don't know what area of CT you are in - but look into mystic and westerly, RI if you are in that area. I believe you can rent homes in westerly too - if you wanted to try that again - or else the andrea hotel is right on the beach. I think they do weddings, but there is another thread on here and you might want to reach out to that bride for more info if she has any. the inn at mystic is supposed to be great if you are looking in that area. try the water's edge resort and in westport? westbrook? too.
    hope this helps!

Can you give me a idea of pricing on the atlantic  beach club? Do they cater it or do i bring in my own caterer? I have looked at the places in mystic and havent really found anything we love, so we are moving over to RI! Thank you!!
  • I looked at Regatta Place.  I don't remember the cost, but if you were to do your wedding on a Thursday or Sunday I guarentee it would be much cheaper.  Mine is on a Thursday at Castle Hill Inn.  Regatta place is right on a dock in a marina.  It is a nice place.
  • atlantic beach club pricing is great! for a friday night, we are getting a great package for about $100 per person...that includes 4 passed apps, cheese/fruit/veg station, salad or soup, 2 entrees w/sides, and a dessert table. I think that covers it. they have all their own in house catering so 1 less thing to worry about! there are cheaper packages available and they will work with teh budget and customize to what you need. the room is fantastic - one wall is all windows...check it out! yeah we wanted westerly or narragansett so I understand about not finding something you like.

  • Sarah,
Would you be able to give me an idea per person how much Bay Voyage will end up costing you for 100 people? I emailed them two weeks ago and haven't heard back. I'm really interested in the place (I went to a wedding there in 09' and LOVED it) and I'm visiting Regatta Place on Saturday and would really like it if I could make an appointment there as well.  Any info would be great! Any idea who I should contact?

    Thanks!

  • You mentioned renting a house in Newport in your original post.  You could try the EIsenhower House in Newport.  It's a historic, state of RI owned house with a large lawn and views of the ocean & the bridge.  You would need to bring your own caterer.
  • I suggest checking out Newport Yachting Center! It is very reasonable and right on the water in Newport Harbor as well. Their coordinator Adrienne has been Amazing and worked to make it so it was affordable for us! For 69$ pp you get 3 passed hors deurves, soup/salad, choice from two entrees, desert, and the cake is included!! Also you get to choose from colored linens at no extra cost! Which I found awesome because I had planned to cent colored linens from an outside vendor regardless to where I chose for a venue! Goodluck to you!
