outdoor bridal shower locations?

Hi there!

I was wondering if anyone has any ideas on where I might be able to host an outdoor bridal shower for approximately 30 people.  We were originally thinking Lincoln Woods, Goddard Park, or Colt State park- renting one of the covered pavilions - but I called today and EVERYTHING is booked!  Apparently the state parks start accepting reservations for picnic areas January 1. Who knew?! Obvisouly not me.

Anyhoo, so I'm back to square one.  The bride, my bff--is really into the idea of having a potluck or picnic style luncheon. A place with some cover if the weather doesn't cooperate would be great.  The shower is planned for early June so I'm hoping that we wouldn't have that problem but you never know in this state. :)

Any advice is appreciated! Thanks!

Maybe one of the winery's?  I'm not sure if you can bring your own food in but it's worth a try, I know there is one in Cumberland that may be more flexible then those in Newport.

Also the North Beach Club (may have the name wrong) in Narragansett would be another option.

How about Pawtuxet park and gazebo? You also can rent the adjacent Aspray Boathouse for like $75, plus $25 if you want to use the kitchen. That includes all tables and chairs. http://gaspee.com/AsprayBoathouse.html (look for the Reserve Pawtuxet Park or the gazebo at the bottom if you only want the outdoor facility, which is free.)

North Beach Clubhouse in Narragansett would be cute, but it costs $1,000 for a nonresident to rent on a weekend day in season. http://www.narragansettri.gov/DocumentView.aspx?DID=493

The gazebo adjacent to the Towers also can be rented for like $40 but I'm not sure how many it holds. The town's parks department handles it.

What about Rose Nulman Park in Narragansett (adjacent to the Pt. Judith Lighthouse)? Here's something I wrote about it for a local wedding mag; the guy was super nice. There are picnic tables there. No covered pavilion but you could maybe rent a canopy somewhere for not too much?

Couples also can wed in the adjacent Rose Nulman Memorial Park, which offers 700 feet of open shoreline and a 270-degree view that includes Block Island.

Saul Nulman purchased the property in 1993 and transformed the former restaurant site into a park in honor of his mother, Rose. Nulman had a longstanding policy of public access to the property’s picnic areas and oceanfront views.

There is no electricity at the site and no restrooms, although one couple brought in portable toilets for their event. Couples can bring chairs onto the property and even host a small reception there if they wish. Plenty of parking is available.

There is no set fee, but couples are asked to make a donation to the VNS Home Health Services in Narragansett – an arrangement Nulman made before his death. To reserve a date, call caretaker Jim Boule at 782-8461.

The vineyard in Cumberland. Is diamon hill vineyard. You cant bring in your own food but they offer an affordable menu. And a tent. It's really cute there!

Thanks for the suggestions! The vineyard option is definitely something to check into as well as Alton Jones. Maybe they have a covered area or something like that? I will give them a call today and see...

What about Button Woods in Warwick? It's got a nice picnic area in the park area and a few sites by the beach. Not really fancy but it can be nice if your looking for a more laid back place.

KBinRI  - thanks for posting that info on Rose Nullman!  The park there has always been a favorite spot of mine, and I always said I wished the restaurant would re-open so I could have my wedding there.  I had no idea people were allowed to use the space for weddings/parties!!!!  it's within walking distance from my parents' home so that would have been nice :)  -maybe rehearsal dinner!

either way, we'll definitely still take pics there!

    good find!
