Caterer help please!

Hey ladies, I am semi new to board postings, having only posted once last week and replied to 2 or so today. I need some advice, I have booked Kinney Bungalow for my June 2013 wedding. I need  advice on caterers for a wedding with under 50 guests. I am on a budget and would like to spend only $2000 or so on food, definitely no more than $3000. Kinney Bungalow requires open bar, so I hope that the caterer will allow me to supply my own liquor. I have read that West bay gourmet allows u to purchase your own liquor but I want other options since I have emailed them and they have yet to respond. I have read that not replying to emails is typical of WBG. I love Spain restuarants food, but I dont believe they are a full caterer service, since I will need linens and place settings. Any help or advice will be very helpful. Oh and I have also contacted Blackstone caterers and they have quoted me at roughly $87pp. I just need to get a feel for what I am in for financially.

Thank you all in advance and I hope you guys can help me :)
Thank you!

Hi Johanna, My best advice is to search "caterer" on this board, that way you can find a ton of information about what people have written past reviews on.

Just so you know B+M Clambake is often suggested on here as  a great caterer that is also budget friendly (they do all kinds of foods, not just clam bakes)

I am personally using blackstone, and all my serviing ware is included-but not the linens, that is an additional charge... so be sure to Read through all the information carefully so you know what is included and whats not

I have not decided on my venue yet, but I am considering several which would require me to bring my own caterer, and I'm facing the same issues as you. I would like to spend under $2,000 total, if at all possible, for the catering. I checked in with Young's Catering out of Seekonk, as I heard that they are pretty reasonable, but I have to finish supplying them with some additional information before I can receive a price proposal. You may want to contact them as well. Other places to check are Penelli Marra of East Greenwich, Emery's of Central Falls, and Trattoria Simpatico out of Jamestown. I also recently came across this place: http://touchofclasscateringri.com/. I really don't know anything about them, but their pricing looks to be very reasonable.

If you find any useful additional information out and/or are able to track down a decent caterer which falls into the under $2,000 price range, I'd love to know about it. I'm only expecting to have about 50-65 guests, so I'm hoping that it will be feasible.

A second vote for B & M Clambake. We are using them for our cocktail hour for a very reasonable price.

Wow great! thank you all for your advice, @ chf08: I will definitely look into the ones you suggested. If I find one that is in expensive I will post it on here. and thank you hick115 I will check out Glenn Place. I do have a question regarding the reception at Kinney Bungalow. Is your daugher not having a sit down dinner? I always wondered about cocktail receptions. I would love just to have cocktails and hor' d'oeuvres for my reception with lots of liquor and dancing. I just was unaware how common it was. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you!

My daughter and her fiance decided on a cocktail reception for the same reasons...cocktails ,hor'd'oeuvres, dancing, and a really good party!  His family is from the west coast and ours is from New England,we figured a cocktail reception would encourage people to mingle, plus we have the issue of dietary restictions with a few of the guests, and with hor' d'oeuvres we can have something for everyone....we had a tasting with Glenn from Tom's Market a couple of weeks ago and the food was fantastic.....he is planning a "heavy" passing of hot and cold ( about 16 pieces per guest!).....we were very impressed...nobody will go home hungry!

@ hick115: Thank you so much, I had no idea that it was more common than I thought. I may just do a cocktail reception at Kinney Bungalow as well, I bet this saved her cost on place settings as well?  since her guest would only need silverware for the cake. I think that it may be cost effective for us and it will ensure that everyone have a great time. :)

Thank you so much once again for all the information this has been extremely helpful in clearing up my misconceptions on what a cocktail reception entails. Laughing the planning process can be a lil daunting since I will be doing this myself so I sincerely appreciate your help.

    Thank you!
