I was wondering if anyone has any ideas for inexpensive but fun save-the-dates? I just set a date for my wedding and am just starting the planning process. I've heard that brides on this board are amazing and helpful so thanks so much in advance :-)
I made mine to look like lottery tickets and they were sent so they'd arrive on St. Patrick's Day. I'll post them below so you can see. Our date is 10-10-10 so we played off that, but you could still cover the dates and make people scratch off and use a different theme.
They're shown below in silver, which I did in InDesign just so FI could see what they'd look like, but we actually did the scratch-offs in green. Stickers came from http://www.myscratchofflabels.com and were super easy to use: She sent us a free sample pack including every sticker she sells so we could decide which we liked best. I designed them in InDesign, uploaded to Staples for printing, then backed them on a card that included our wedding Web site and stuck on a 2010 penny for them to scratch with. They were a hit with our guests. The cost was about 85 cents apiece.
I ordered mine through Wedding Paper Divas. It looked like a postcard, and we uploaded a photo of us from our engagement session with the info on the left-hand side. It was cute and not too pricey. We got a ton of compliments on them
We also did a postcard that we ordered from zazzle.com. It is a pic of the newport harbor and we customized it with our names and date of the wedding. On the back we are going to write a personalized message to each person/family. They cost about $80 (including shipping) for 100 of them. Goodluck!!
I ordered mine from vistaprint and was pleasantly surprised with the quality. I picked from their postcard templates and changed the design around a bit. they are SUPER cheap too!
I designed our 2-sided full color postcard and had it printed through overnightprints.com - they offer offset presses and digital. Super high quality on thick stock...for 100 on the offset press, I paid 39.95 plus around 12 for shipping...seriously can't beat the quality and price. Because they weren't self-mailers, I bought 100 turquoise envelopes from envelopemall.com for 9.95 (can't find that price anywhere else) and then bought king and queen love stamps from USPS. The cost originally came to ~1.10 per piece after all shipping and postage to mail them...and then FI found a typo on the original printed set of cards...I had to re-order and produced it on overnightprints digital press and those are even cheaper - 19.95 (last weeks's promo price) for 100 plus shipping. I'll reveal them on my blog later this week :-)
Happily Married!! 5.29.11 was THE best day of our lives!
I wanted something unique but different so I checked Etsy for some inspiration. They have tons of STD designs but we really love the postcard from Toast Events. It told a little story with pictures in the shape of buttons which worked for us because FI is from Cali and I am from MA and we moved to R.I. The last picture is a magnet buttons with our names and date of the wedding. It came out to $3.25 each as we wanted to save money and use our own envelopes and mailing label. It is totally customizable.
