We used Shemry from Corbys Cakes and Cookies for a 5 tier cake - lemon sour cream cake with strawberries.  I wanted something simple.  She put ribbon along the base of each tier.  It looked lovely.  I think it was under $300.  We estimated 130 guests.  The bottom tier (the biggest one) wasn't even touched.

I wanted to do something different for the guest rather than a cake so we are doing strawberry shortcake.  We are getting married in August so I thought it would be a great idea.  It is cheaper than a cake and I am going to have a ceremonial cake to cut.

our cake is part of our catering package, but at the bridal show, we tried sin desserts mini cupcakes and they were amazingly good. we thought about doing a grooms cake just so that we could get a cake from them. their website is eatwicked.com

We're using Sweet Sophistications.  His website is horrible, but he has the best cake I've ever had!

We met with Sin (eatwicked) and loved her ideas and cakes. And we are planning to meet with Creative Cake Company in Newport, R.I. I am having a tasting with them this Sunday.

For cupcake lovers, you might want to try Sweet Somethings and the Bakery Boutique

Not sure where you're getting married but if you're in the Newport area Fatullis in Middletown is great and very reasonably priced.  We've ordered a three tier cake for 100 and back up sheet cake for 100 which saved us a lot of money.  We just went with the traditional vanilla sponge cake layered with fresh cut strawberries.  Yum!

I just had my bridal shower this weekend and one of my Bridesmaid went to Fatullis for my cakes.  Although they were absolutely delicious when she arrived one of the cakes said HAPPY BIRTHDAY THERESA and had my fiance's name on the other cake.  They definately do not pay attention to detail but their end product is great.  I would just double, double confirm everything with them.

We used Sweet Sophisitications as well. Yes, the website is a nightmare, but we gave him a picture of what we wanted and he executed it perfectly, and the cake was fabulous! It tastes like cake from Pastiche on Fed Hill.
