So I am trying to decide where I should go for alterations. 

I bought my dress at Wishing Well, but there are up and down reviews about alterations there, and it is definetly out of my way to get there, even though it is only a few trips I would like to bring some of my family and they would not be able to get up there.  My co-worker is getting hers done there, with more alterations than I need, and she was quoted $150, which I find reasonable and can afford.

I have heard nothing but awesome things about Sewing Creations by Rose, and she is located right near where I live, but it seems like she might cost more (my sister's prom dress was over $100 to alter for just a hem and something).  Rose does give free estimates, but I would have to go get my dress from Wishing Well, and if Rose costs too much, I would have to bring the dress BAck to Wishing Well after (or find another seamstress).. 

So does anyone have any quotes from Rose I can use to compare?  I really want to go to her but I am running about $6k over budget at this point and can NOT afford more extras.  Help!

Rose did mine and it was $125 for a French bustle (lots of points in it; at least 12-14) and press. The train was hung on a separate hanger to keep it wrinkle-free and she even carries it out to your car for you. My dress was chiffon with a satin underlay, so I'm not sure if that made any difference, but DB quoted me over $300. She's fabulous and provides nice personal touches, too. Also, her bustles are ties instead of hooks; most of my friends' dresses had bustle hooks that didn't last.

I also got my dress from Wishing Well and went to Rose for alterations.  Mine cost I think $135, my dress was 100% silk.  She added a bustle and cut open the arm holes a little bit so that my arms could breathe.  :-)  I had heard that the WW folks take the dress to their house to alter, I didn't like that (like, I wouldn't have gone to the store for alterations).  I lived in MA at the time and didn't know RI well enough to drive around like that.  I also heard they smoke at home, but I also heard that was not true.  Still.  ROSE.  All the way.  :-)

My alterations are extensive so the total cost is $275. I can't complain because my Pronovias dress was only $253 ( Running of the Brides). It was way too big for me so I needed it taken in, hemmed, bustled and I also ask Rose to change the neckline. Rose was been an absolute dream to work with. My dress is made of a lace material with a continuous pattern detailed with tiny pearls so the work is pretty tedious and labor intensive.

She does steam/press and safely stores the dress until pick up.

Hi All, unfortunately I don't have any recommendations but just a quick question.
 I also got my dress at wishing well, and as far as I can tell should only need hemming, but I'm nervous now hearing there might be some negative things about their alterations...any thoughts on what I should do? 

Personally, I figured I'd get it done there that way if something were to go wrong with the dress, it wouldn't be 'out of their hands' so to speak.  I don't anticipate a problem, and wishing well was absolutely phenomenal in every way, so I don't know if they would be like this, but my cousin had something like this happen to her at another shop.  She bought her flower girl dresses at one shop (not WW), took them to another to get altered, they fell apart (quite literally!) before the girls had to walk down the aisle, and it wasn't a problem with the alterations, but with the dresses themselves.  the shop they bought them from said since they took the dresses elsewhere to be altered, there was nothing they could do (in other words, putting the blame on the alterations), and the seamstress couldn't do anything b/c it had nothing to do with the alterations she had made.

That's probably a dramatic and unlikely event, but still it got me thinking I would be better covered by having the same shop do the alterations.  Now I am just a little leery...

any thoughts are appreciated!  (East Prov. is also kind of a haul for me, whereas EG would be perfect!)

Rose has been doing alterations longer than I've been alive. Her credentials are solid and the reviews reflect that. Take the dress in for an estimate as she will take a look at the dress and make suggestions and such. It's definitely worth meeting with her to get a second opinion. I find most bridal shops tend to overprice everything.

Just booked my first appointment with Rose for next Tuesday, yay, thanks girls!  She was so sweet on the phone, can't wait.  :^)

Let us know what she quotes you.  I made my first fitting appointment already and she was very sweet over the phone.  She pretty much told me the max she would ever charge would be $300 and the price she quotes the first day will include as many fittings as needed.  I'm traveling, with a taffeta dress, and she told me to make her the last stop so she could pack the dress in the car for us. She really put me at ease.
