Belle Mer and Cruise Ships Blocking View!

I just found out that on the day of my wedding, there will be not one, but two lovely, huge cruise ships parked out front!!!

Has any past Belle Mer brides expericenced this?  Or anyone else know if the view from the Island House will be completely blocked?  Kinda stinks since the view is a big part of what we are paying for!

we were just in newport a few weeks ago and while we were driving in over the bridge, we were shocked to see a cruise ship off goat island. that particular cruise ship was docked more near the hyatt-kind of between the hyatt and the bridge. so youd still get some good ocean pics and views but probably not the best view of the bridge. i dont know where the 2nd cruise ship wil be so i cant really help out much there, but if its parked where the other one was, you should still get a great view of the water. good luck. im sorry this happened. your day will be beautiful nonetheless and there will still be beautiful ocean views.

Cruise ships usually leave by 7PM to head to their next port, so you should be fine for most of your reception. But as PP said, you're still going to get a great view!

Also, aren't most Newport cruise destinations during the fall? Just trying to figure that out so I'm not surprised if I see a huge cruise ship in 3 weeks.

We asked that same question at our last meeting with Belle Mer. Our event coordinator said that they typically leave by 5pm.

How did you find out the cruise ships will be there???

Thanks ladies - I think that was my first "freak out" moment!  My wedding is during the day on 10/10, so unfortunately, the boats will be there for the whole ceremony and reception.  However, I did look on Belle Mer's website and I found this picture

and thankfully, even with the boats there, you can still see SOME of the water/view.

You can find the cruise ship schedule here:
It looks like the list hasn't been updated since April, but when I checked the two cruise ship's websites, it appears to be accurate.

If anyone else finds some good (I don't want to see bad - I'm trying to be positive!) pictures with the boats in the background, please send it to me - umasskdome@hotmail.com

I'll keep my fingers crossed for the rest of you ladies that there won't be any boats in the harbor for your weddings!!!

According to that, I'm safe... but that's subject to change...

Who's your photographer? Could you let them know that you just found this out, and you're concerned about how it will affect your pictures? They might have some ideas...

</div><div>My photographer is Sara Zarrella.  I emailed her last night and she has already called me with a bunch of ideas - she's great.  Thankfully, she said that our package includes photo-shopping  - nice to know she can edit the boats out if necessary. </div>

I may not be getting married at Belle Mer, but I grew up in Newport/Middletown, and just visited Belle Mer a couple months back. Here's my $0.02:

I know October can be chilly (and windy), but the view outside is gorgeous. If you're on the northern side of the wall, you can go outside and get some great photos with the bridge in the background, assuming the cruise ships are both to the west of Goat Island, like they normally are.
