Rant/Rave? Robert Anthony Salon and question about hair/makeup for maids

Hi everyone!

I'm thinking through my hair and makeup options. I'm getting married in Narragansett, and I'd like to either have someone come to us or go to a nearby salon.

I used to frequent Robert Anthony Salon when I lived in South County, but I never went there for special event hair/makeup. I'm wondering if anyone used them for their wedding and if so, could you give me an idea of price? Their website seems to be down.

Also, how is everyone handling the hair/makeup for their bridesmaids? I have four, plus my mom and my FMIL. This could be really costly for me to pay myself as I'm on a pretty tight budget. Would it be out of line to pay for one or the other for my bridesmaids so long as I let them know about this far in advance?

My thinking right now is that I'd like to pay to have their hair done and let them choose whether or not they'd like to pay to have their makeup done at the salon or do it on their own. Is this completely crazy?

I've also never been a bridesmaid in anyone else's wedding, so I have no frame of reference for what is normal. Thanks!

I don't have any input on who to use (I'm trying to figure it out too!), but I can tell you I've been in weddings where bride has and has not paid for hair and makeup.  I think as long as you tell your BMs ahead of time that you won't be paying for it and give them the option of whether or not they want to do it, that's totally fine.  Just don't expect all of them to get it done bc it may not be financially feasible for them either.

I go to Robert Anthony for my regualr hair cut/color and I love it there.  When I asked my stylist about wedding hair he said he doesn't do up-do's, but he said another guy that works there is great at them.  I haven't seen any work, and can't for the life of me remember his name, but he is not the owner guy, and he is not Jack (my stylist).  I will be going there this Thursday and can check!  Though I'm sure if you call and ask for the guy who is really good at wedding hair they would know who you're talking about!

I have been in one wedding and my hair was paid for and we did our own makeup.  I have 3 BM, I would like their hair to be done and hoping I can afford to pay, but if I can't afford it I won't make them get it done.  They don't really wear makeup, one BM didn't even put makeup on for her own wedding, so I KNOW she won't want it, and the other 2 are broke college kids, so I think we will be ok doing that ourselves.  I do want mine done, however, so they will probably have an option to do it if they want to pay.

Thanks for the input. I used to have my cuts/color done there, and I think it could work out well. I'm sure if I call I can get a lot of information about pricing, etc. Plus, it's close to my venue and we can get there easily that morning.

Right now, I'm leaning towards paying for their hair and letting them make their own decisions about their makeup. I would like to have mine done, but none of my bridesmaids wear tons of makeup anyway and I trust them all to be tasteful about it if they choose to do their own.
