Does this seem reasonable for flowers?

I went to talk to a florist in East Greenich.  She is charging a 100 dollar delivery fee and my bouquet will be 100.00. I don't know if that is good or not as I have no idea how much the average bouquet is. This is the only florist we have talked to so far but I am not sure if we will be going with them yet. FI thinks the price went up a little because she knows the place we are getting married is really nice.I don't really understand why it is 100 dollars to bring the flowers from EG to Newport...

15 dollars for each pin on coursage ( for my parents and his)
50 dollars for my MOH bouquet
35 for my toss bouquet

Re: Does this seem reasonable for flowers?

  • everything sounds normal to me except the toss bouquet...$35??!! mine is free...i was told he would just use leftover flowers from the bridal or BMs. who did you meet with? also, the 100 delivery is a little steep, but not totally unusual - i was told if my wedding was sunday - the delivery would go up as my place needs to compensate his workers time and 1/2 on sundays and since its a small shop - they dont have a lot of staff - so they need to make up the money somehow if workers are doing wedding stuff rather than staying at the store.
  • Try looking at some florists on the island. I used Carlone's in Portsmouth. No delivery charge and she delivered to 3 places! We spent $1200 including 4 BM, 4 GM, 3 corsages, 14 centerpieces, and 8 cocktail table small centerpieces. She did amazing work!!

  • A delivery fee is not uncommon.  If they are traveling a long distance $100 sounds about right and the prices for your bouquets seem very reasonable.  My bouquet was $175 and my MOH and BM's were $95.
  • I think a $100 delivery fee is outrageous, unless she's driving 2 hours away.
  • I thought the 100 dollar delivery charge was a lot.  She is driving from East Greenich to Newport... plus my wedding is on a Thursday!  I might just nix the toss bouquet alltogether because my wedding is pretty small, around 50 guests and there would only be a handful of girls to catch my bouquet.

  • Oh and it was Dave's florist in East Greenich, Le Isle Rose.
  • We didn't do the toss bouquet/garter thing. 1) We felt it's an uncomfortable tradition for those subjected to it, 2) save money on toss bouquet, 3) there were also only handful of single people at our wedding. Go for it, no one missed it!!

  • i think all in all its pretty common - except your toss bouquet and i agree, if they are going to charge you that much - i say forget about it.
i was told the prices go up depending on what kinds of flowers you want, how many BMs and how many centerpieces you need. that is really where florists tack on the $...
  • I guess I wasn't too specific on the flowers that I wanted, I was more about the colors of them.  I was however specific about MOH's bouquet because she and I both agreed that hers would be white and yellow roses.  She charged me 50 for hers, and 100 for mine.  Now, I am also only requiring very LITTLE from her... so that could be why she is jacking the prices a bit.  I only need one bouquet for the bridal party and she is not doing centerpieces for me.  The total with delivery fee and tax was just under 450 dollars.
  • The type of flowers, size/style and overhead cost/labor will be the main factors in determining price.  I suggest you go in with a budget and be upfront about it. I also suggest getting a couple of quotes from other florists in the area.

My bouquet was $82.00 and the delivery charge to Newport from Providence was $27.00

Where did you go for a florist?  I am in the process of trying to find one and your prices seemed very reasonable.
  • I think the prices seem reasonable. My florist also gave the throw bouquet for free as well. If you still want to do it, you could make one yourself from fake flowers to save money. My florist also charged a 50 delivery fee, even for being in the same town. I would definitely get other quotes or ask to use less expensive flowers.
