Newport Venue Suggestions - NEED TIPS!

My fiance and I are just starting to plan our wedding and are hoping to be able to do the ceremony and reception in Newport, RI.

Everything we've looked at seems to be extremely pricey!

Does anyone have suggestions for reasonable venue's in or around Newport? We really don't want to exceed our budget of $30K.

Re: Newport Venue Suggestions - NEED TIPS!

  • Staying within your budget is going to greatly depend on your guest count and time of year.  The higher the guest count and if you are only consdering peak season (May-October) this will be a bit more challenging.

    Some places to consider:
    Atlantic Beach Club
Glen Manor (does have a rental fee but look at the big picture, catering from an outside caterer is typically more budget friendly than in-house catering so the math could work out for you)
Easton's Beach Rotunda (I believe they have a rental fee and requrie caterer as well)

    Happy planning!!

  • As PP said, it depends on time of year and guest count. Where have you looked?
We got married at my church and reception at Regatta Place. Guest list was 120. We did a Sunday which cut back on the costs. We fell well below your $30k budget so I'd suggest checking them out. Also, a lot of places are willing to work with you. So just b/c you see a price on their website or brochure doesn't mean it's in stone. It's worth it to meet with them and talk about your budget. Now, places like Castle Hill may not be within, but here's where I'd recommend you look for budget friendly:
Glenn Manor (but do an Excel spreadsheet of all costs - sometimes all those little extras add up!)
    Regatta Place
    Viking Hotel
    Atlantic Beach Club
We seriously considered all of these and they were all in our price range, so we ended up choosing RP based on the type of setting we wanted.
    Happy hunting!

  • Regatta Place & Newport Yachting Center were the most budget friendly we visited.

I got married at Easton Beach for 200 guests for around 24k. We did get married on a Sunday though (Memorial Day Weekend) but took advantage of the Monday off. A Friday and Sunday or weekday wedding will save you more money. Off season rates offer savings too. There are also budget friendly vendors out there who can give you the most bang for your buck.

I also agree with Regatta Place.
I went there Tuesday to see the venue and get a quote. It was alot lower than I imagined for such a beautiful location. Thier food minimum for a Sunday is only $7800.00.

Another great suggestion, which to me just seemed like a cheaper Regatta Place, is the Newport Yachting Center. It is very similar to Regatta Place. Has a tent and outdoor patio area as well. They do not have any minimums, thier per person packages start at $69 pp and include hors d'oeuvres and the cake!

Thank you ladies for all of the suggestions!! We have an appointment on June 2nd to see Regatta Place and OceanCliff because it's under the same ownership.

We are doing 100 and it will be during peak season but I'll definitely look into a Friday night wedding.

    Has anyone looked at OceanCliff?
  • Yes, we looked at both OC and RP since they're the same owners. OC is beautiful, but it is more expensive than RP. I don't remember by how much. Some tips from a local:
You're paying for the view - don't do a timeframe when it'll be dark during the majority of your reception, otherwise it's just a glorious ballroom that's way more expensive than necessary and w/o the view.
Have lunch or dinner at The Safarri Room, which is located at OC, right next to the reception hall. It's yummy, and it'll give you an idea of how the food is, though I believe it's a different chef for functions.
RP and OC are two VERY different settings. So which one you choose will depend on the type of wedding you want. Sophisticated and classic? Go with OC. Laid back, fun, and different? Go with RP.
If you have any specific questions to RP, shoot me a PM! (Though I recommend putting a notice on the main RI Board to let me know to check my PMs since I rarely check there.)
    Good luck!

I am having mine at the Newport Yachting Center on a Saturday in June. I have realitively the same budget you do and more on my guest list. They have been great to work with and have reasonable package deals. And have ice cream sandwiches! Haha Def worth taking a look at if you have time!

  • I got married at Belle Mer on May 4th (Friday) and they really worked with me on my budget.  We booked the smaller room and since it was so close to the off-peak season, they gave us that pricing.  Granted it's a little expensive, but the minimum was only $15k and the room rental was $3k, so we only had to spend $12k on the food/drink/etc, which was do-able with a guest list of 200.

  • The Atlantic Beach Hotel & Suites would be lovely for a smaller wedding. We loved the location and the staff (Chef Lyle was fantastic to meet!), but unfortunately it was just too small for us.
