memory candle

did anyone incorporate a memory candle into their ceremony?  we will light one prior to the beginning of the ceremony and have our minister acknowledge the memory of my fiance's father at the start of the ceremony.  however, i was wondering what to do with the candle during the procession.  since it will be to honor my fiance's father who recently passed away, i was thinking he could walk in carrying the candle and place it near the front where he will light it at the start of the procession.  .... or something like that.  any ideas?

I would have one of your WP members light it after they walk down the aisle or just have it already lit.

no ideas, just encouragement.  i think that's a beautiful idea, and i might borrow it.  i was actually thinking of not having a bouquet, and i think my holding a candle to honour my dad who passed away would be much more meaningful.  thanks!

The candle on the altar in memory of my sister was lit prior to the ceremony. Just as the ceremony was beginning, the priest explained what it was for.

I had one lit for my mother who passed away 10 months before my wedding.  It was lit before the ceremony started, and stayed that way on the altar throughout.  The program explained the significance of the candle.  Not that I was trying to "show off" my grieving or anything like that.  I just wanted my program to really explain to guests what was going on at all times.

Another idea--memorial flowers.  We're having one of the groomsmen carry two roses down the aisle and place them where the groom's parents would normally sit, in effect,reserving those seats.  He will bring them down just before they walk the my mother down, just as he would escort the groom's mother.  Later, wem. plan on placing them in a vase on the cake table, with a picture of each of them.  I like the candle idea, too, though-that's beatiful.
