Fall outdoor wedding ideas

Hi all. We are struggling with the idea of an outdoor wedding on the lakeside (at home) on October 11th. I need suggestions for dealing with weather and also what people, including the mom of the bride should wear? Marilyn

Are you planning for it to be casual? I am getting married 10/10 but we are doing everything inside. I will wear ivory and my BMs and MOB will be in chocolate brown. The flowers will be fall colors and we will use leaves in our decorating. If you are going for a casual feel, MOB could wear a nice dress that she has or find lots of options in the stores now (they are starting to carry fall clothing). BMs could wear something with a shawl to keep their upper bodies warm. I have a cashmere scarf that I will wear between buildings to keep warm. I would make a back-up plan in case it rains and you have to move it inside (unless you have a tent that everyone could be under). Also, depending on where it is, it might get chilly so I would make sure that you let your guests know that it is outdoors so that they can bring a sweater or jacket.

I would definitely have shelter (tent or indoors) available. It could be very windy, especially on the lake, so make sure if things are outside/under a tent things are anchored down. A tent with sides that be up or down might work. As for dress, definitely try for something that you could pair a wrap or shawl with. My wedding is in October as well (indoors though) and I am ordering all the girls pashmina's to wear if it is chilly. HTH

Also, definitely make sure your guests know it is outside. That way they will be prepared for the weather and can dress accordingly.

Is there a spot at the location that people can seek shelter? A barn, garage, covered deck etc. Heaters etc. Can you rent a tent? If you do be sure to have the side panels put on either way. As far as attire, I would agree with PP, make sure that your guests know it's an outdoor event.  I attended a wedding a few years ago in October. The day was crazy, warm and then the wind would bring a chill. We didn't know it was outside at the venue. Just make sure you let your guests know so everyone can have a great time!
