Getting married during lent

We have set our day for april 9, 2011 and my fiance is catholic.. it never occured to us that it is during lent. We have talked to our church and priest and they said it was okay and the only bad thing is we cant decorate the church alot with flowers. Have any of yall gotten married or went to a wedding during lent? I am really nervous about it being during lent but we have already booked alot of things. And I hope when April 9 rolls around it is still ok to get married during lent. Thanks.

Re: Getting married during lent

  • If your parish has given you the OK with the date, you should be fine.

This is something that relaxed in many places over the years.  I went to a wedding during Lent 3 years ago and it was cold but that was the only thing I remember that stood out as "different".
  • I have never heard of a church allowing you to get married during lent. If they told you it was ok i would get something in writing from them so that there is no misunderstanding when the time comes.

I'm catholic, but I'm a casual one. I said that I wanted to get married on St. Patrick's Day, well it is during Lent, my aunt told me that churchs do not allow wedding during that time, but if your parish does then that is great. I'm going to have my wedding all in one place so I don't have to worry too much about that, although my grandmaw will not be happy it wont be at a church. I wanted a small wedding, so I feel like I am comprimising.

  • As long as the church is fine with it, no problems.  Just keep to their decorating constraints, and you'll be fine.  If you're doing a Friday, you'll need to serve fish.

Our (really liberal) church doesn't do weddings during lent, period.
  • My church had a wedding last weekend during lent, so I think you're fine!
