Vow idea

My fiance and I decided to do our own vows. In all honesty, I actually wrote a couple drafts of vows in my journal months before we got engaged. Stuff I'd say to him on our wedding day.

But after we got engaged, I really thought about it and wrote what I think will be my final draft. I wanted to see if it seems too cheesy.

"Jonathan,
I first thought that was we have was Just a Dream, but as I stand here to Marry You, our love seems more like A Sorta Fairytale.

Time and time again you have shown me the shape of your heart. When I needed you, you were my Safest Place to Hide. I really can't believe I Got You. But here we are today, sharing a love that I feel is Larger than Life. I Promise You with Everything that I am that I will Love You Always and Forever. Also, that I Will Take Care of You and I'll Be There For You.

I Just Want You to Know that I'll Never Break Your Heart and You're Never Going to Be Alone with me around.

Our life together Keeps Getting Better that I really Could Not Ask For More. I love you Inside and Out Jonathan. I am really excited to spend the rest of my life with you."

What do you think? I typed it a certain way with the capital letters of random words, because those are actually song titles I incorporated into the vows. But I hope I made the vows sincere. Thoughts?

<div>The bolded is the only part that's actually a vow. Vows are about promises, not telling a story or talking about how much you love your partner. I mean, obviously you should love them, but the vows portion is what you're promising them.

</div><div>And I agree, the song title thing is a little cheesy and won't come across well when spoken.</div>

  • Good point about the vow part. I suppose I should look online something about writing own vows. Maybe starting with the bolded line.

As for the songs, a lot are BSB titles and they mean a lot to me. Others are just random titles that I thought fit into the sentences. But I can nix them if it'll make the vows more sentimental. I don't need song titles in my vows, just thought it might be neat to incorporate them.  I think I'll need to revise, thanks ladies.

  • I don't care too much when people write their own vows, but I'm not a fan of cheesy gimmicks.  They're too cutesy and lack dignity, and without dignity, they cheapen the wedding ceremony.  And if I spent a lot of money, time, and energy on attending the wedding, that rubs me the wrong way.

[QUOTE]I'm not a huge fan of when people write their own vows because they tend to be too rambling, gushy, and not vow like. Yours are short, which I appreciate, and not the worst I've seen, but I'm still not nuts about them. That being said, the ceremony is the one part that really is all about you two, so if that is what you have your hearts set on, go for it.

Yeah I definitely wanted to keep it short. I have a hard time speaking in front of a lot of people, as I stutter a bit. So wanted to keep them short and sweet. Just need to revise :)

  • I agree that without the help of the capital letters, I wouldn't have caught on to the song titles.  Guests won't see the vows, they'll only hear them, and probaly won't get it.  If these songs are important to you, play one or two during the ceremony, play them all at the reception, or include just a line or two rather than the title from one very special song in your vows.  Best wishes!
P.S.  Don't worry about speaking the vows perfectly during the ceremony--it's charming when the happy couple expresses emotion, even if that comes out as a little stuttering.  No one should think poorly of you for that!

Thanks, it's one of my major insecurities. I'll try to focus on just my fi when I say those words and that might help.

I decided to revise last night and get rid of the song titles. More I thought about it, the more cheesy it sounded. Thanks for pointing it out ladies. So I decided to write heartfelt promises instead, incorporating some of the more "traditional" vows such as for richer or poorer, in sickness and in health - just with my own spin.
